I think they overcharge everyone, but yea is obvious that they'll do it to women the most since they live off that stereotype that "women dont know shit about cars." but you can always avoid this by installing a secret cam in your car and let it run whenever you take your care to the mechanic
They overcharge dudes too, if they get the vibe you don't know about the matter that much they will find ways. It's always best to get one trustworthy mechanic, a friend or something and only go there, you can check prices around but building a relationship is important
Yes, but honest mechanics won't overcharge. Dishonest mechanics will overcharge anyone that they think they can get away with overcharging, not just women.
Oh yeah. Stereotypically women aren't exactly known for their knowledge of cars so to some people they would make easy targets for the mechanics to overcharge and upsell.
What I've heard is that they over charge men too. This is why if I ever need a mechanic I will visit one that is friends or family with one of my friends so they won't take advantage of me.

Some do, some don't. But its not about you being a woman.
What mechanics do, is they might ask questions or make statements to judge how mechanical litereate you are. If its clear you don't know much about cars, they will lie to you to get more money. Women on average know less about cars, so they fall victim to this more often.
OH YES! But not just women! Naiive men too. You have to firm with them, because they will make up a bunch of problems that don't exist and charge you money to fix them. Mechanics are scammers. You have to be careful.
Lol I take my car to a mechanic to have a starter replaced.. cost me nearly 500 bucks... had my wife do the same with her car it was just over 200 you tell me.. by the way we have the same make and model of car..
Basically any industry where you don't know your shit, prepare to be ripped off. That's why you gotta do a ton of research before buying shit. Consumer reports used to be a good resource, I don't know anymore.
Why don’t boyfriends or husbands teach women about cars or learn somewhere else, so they will know if someone wants more money out of them? I can’t drive, so I don’t have to worry.
Depends on where you go the corporate chain shops and dealerships won't do this as the price is already established before you walk in the door. Indepent shops maybe...
They overcharge and scam everyone they can. Depending on the car you drive, concerns you have and service you ask for they will usually figure out whether or not you know about enough cars to get ripped off.
Most mechanics are honest, I've worked in a car shop and mechanics usually like having female customers because they're less likely to argue with them, so it's always best to keep them happy so they keep coming back

Sometimes. I've heard some horror stories. It's a reason that it pays to be a bit mechanically versed

Trick question, they overcharge everyone for repairs.
They are crooks to anyone. Thats why im having my dad teach me about car stuff so i can do it myself instead of paying a mechanic lol.
That is why my mechanic is my best guy friend and he only charge me for parts and not his work. And parts he charge me with discount.
I think nowadays most mechanics who work for a professional company charge everybody the same fees for their work.

They'll screw everyone if they could, not just women.
Read the paperwork next time. If something looks fishy then ask about it.
