It's amazing how many people who complain (sometimes correctly) about liberal snowflakes being triggered, are themselves triggered because they think the person playing a magic sea creature has the wrong skin tone in a movie.
Not all liberals/not all people who complain about them. But still.
I wonder what the same people who tell others to get over the fact that a black women is playing a white character would think if a white women played princess Tiana in a live action considering Tiana's race has nothing to do with the story and she wasn't even human for most of it.🤔
I think it's stupid to be offended by the casting choice, but people who disagree with it are entitled to their opinion. I'm against when studios purposefully try switching out white characters with non-white actors but I also just feel like if someone who isn't white has talent then they're entitled to the same chance as anyone else.
I think actors should fit the race of the character. We all grew up watching Ariel as a red haired, pale skinned ginger girl. So the actress should be a red haired woman.
The thing is Tiana being black has a part to do with her story line. She was a black woman trying to open a restaurant during segregation. It’s important to her character. Also I’ve heard she’s based on a real person. So it’s kind of a different story
Who gives a shit? Its a reboot, a reimagining, and a retelling of a story that was already drastically changed from the original. Disney owns "the little mermaid" they get to tell the story however they want. If they want to add aliens and a mariachi band thats their perogative. Either watch it or dont.
I love Tatiana from the princess and the frog, because she is her own princess. If Tatiana took Cinderellas place in a remake, Tatiana would lose herself and be reduced to colour.
Disney is just cashing in on it's already done movies. They lucky little kids will eat up anything they give them cause if it was up to us adults, that wouldn't fly.
When they tell me there is something New and Good on the history may be I watch it, sorry but I don't consider a black actress as something new... May be a new focus on the history, but without throwing on the trash the message of love it has, then, may be I watch it. Im tired of getting a LGBT minority to not focus on the quality of the history
I love the actress/singer, I think it's a great cast. But tbh, Ariel kinda a whack princess lmao. I much rather them just make another black princess instead of a dumb live action remake. But shout out to Halle Bailey for landing the role.

poor Ariel.. she's looks ugly with new skin colour. old Ariel is perfect. means she's a ginger. but black Ariel with red hair? wtf? this ruined childhood.. kids would colour their head with not natural colour
She’s cute. As long as she does the role justice I don’t think it really matters what she looks like. But Ariel’s red flowing hair is pretty iconic. It’ll be interesting to see how the movie turns out
I like it. There’s already a white mermaid. Let’s have a beautiful black mermaid. Every little girl deserves to have herself represented in a good way and be the lead character.
Ridiculous. They're ruining movies by letting a black person play an originally white character. Like Deadpool 2 was ruined with domino being a black woman. Im racist but i prefer original content like it should be
I think it is fucked up that Walt Disney funded the Nazis yet now the company is pretending to care about diversity. If they want to make movies with black characters do it it is fine but do they have to do it in ways to try to piss fans off who are already used to something else?
Why do so many focus on her skin color, rather than her acting ability, as a known actress? How racist, as so many, that have issues with this? I want her to do it, and ROCK THE FCK, out of it, and GET A LOT OF AWARDS, FOR THAT!!
Of all the things to spend your energy on, being mad online that a cartoon character based on a fictional creature wasn’t cast in what you feel is a racially accurate way. Just lmao.
@WalmartFlipFlop I know. I'm just saying that seeing all this pop culture stuff is annoying. They are basically saying the world is all wrong, everything in history is bad and wrong and must be erased and changed. Not everything in the past and present is perfect. But that doesn't mean you should destroy it all. If someone is offended by the shape of the pyramids doesn't mean they should be restructured. Just because Italy looks like a boot when looking from space doesn't mean its boarders need to be changed. It's part of history. Chill.
I get what you are saying but no one is destroying anything just fixing it or making a different version. No one took away the original content they are making it from.
@WalmartFlipFlop Okay, fine. We also have destruction of statues and other historic things. I think that's wrong too. The left gets offended too easily... about everything.
I do agree about the destruction of the statues. I feel like everyone would be satisfied if they were simply moved to a “museum of shame” or something like that.
that's just weird... Ariel has red hair, she's white and has blue eyes.. Not black... I don't like it. They can make another black princess instead of ruining a white one, it's a white story lol
@JDavid25 yeah I know it is racist, but It’s the truth. You can’t just change a disney princess’ skin color because some girl wants to play her role in a movie. That’s a no no for me
They already did, and they chose her because they felt she was a good choice and the Ariels "race" or outward appearance really didn't matter to the core of her character..
@JDavid25 well it does to me;-; and probably Many other people too, that just ruins the movie, they should’ve found a white redhead girl to play ariel, it’s best when it’s accurate.
Sayin that that ruined the movie is pretty racist.. Cause you never saw the movie and a change in color of a fictional character shouldn't ruin a movie.. Plus, doin somethin different is not too bad.. At least they took a risk..

Exactly thank you for saying that
I feel like Ariel should be played by a white girl just as Tiana should be played by a black girl.

it’s a fairytale regardless.
Should we have a white Jasmine? A white Mulan? It’s ridiculous.
Again, both Jasmine and Mulans race/nationality have a lot to do with their story line. But I get your point I guess
I mean the fashion of the clothes would tell us that the story does not take place somewhere where black people naturally lived.

I'm sick of remakes where they change a key aspect like the gender or appearance of the main characters. Give me new movies
I love Tatiana from the princess and the frog, because she is her own princess. If Tatiana took Cinderellas place in a remake, Tatiana would lose herself and be reduced to colour.

I meant im not racist lol
I feel like all y'all have it too good in life if this is a problem for any of you. See this little girl?
.. She raised her hands to surrender because she thought the camera was a gun.. I'm getting real tired of this snowflake BS and petty "problems".

I am sick of all these liberal changes.
Write a brand new movie / show / comic, whatever instead of rewriting something that has existed for decades.
You don’t have to watch it though.

Pointless. The original story is danish, the original movie was a white redhead. It's like Black Panther suddenly was a white dude.
I certainly ain't gonna watch it. If Hollywood wants quality PoC characters in movies, CREATE them.
