We got my current dog when he was 2 1/2 years old. For the first month he didn't bark at anything. He was getting to know the territory and seeing what's normal. After the month he started protecting us and our property. I trained him very well. He's very protective of us. Me dog is a mix of black lab and pitbull. In the past I've had a German shepherd and a pure breed havawart. ( Google it. Mine was the black and tan color).
