Yeah I have before, minus the lost part. The only difference between the two is I don’t know where I’m going. But surviving 3 days is not hard.
Depends, what time of year is it, and what do I get to bring with me?
Sorry, I fell asleep. I was off last night.
But yes, I do have more experience in that field than most. But if you stick me out there in the middle of winter with nothing by my clothes and a knife I’ll admit, I would have a hell of a time surviving for 3 days.
I can do a dead fall trap, but I have never done a snare trap. But even then I would need at least a knife, preferably a saw blade.
Knots are an area I could improve in for sure. But yeah, give me my full pack, in spring-fall and I could make my way home form 50 miles out okay. Although I would just bring some lightweight food with me to save a hell of a lot of time and energy.
With a cell signal that’s not even an issue. If I have a map and compass I can do pretty well. With just a compass I would probably be okay. Without a compass that gets tricky, especially if it’s overcast. Like I know how to find Polaris, know where the sun rises and sets, but it’s so easy to get turned around without land marks.

3 days isn't that much so yeah I'd make it out just fine as long as i was able to find some water and somewhere safe to sleep.

Yes. I always have my small survival bag with me when I'm outdoors like that (I have one in each vehicle, identically equipped, and I maintain them every 3 months). I have a couple of collapsible cups and water purification tablets, and water is going to be the primary concern. The second concern is shelter/protection from the elements, and I have a hat and a couple of space blankets, the latter of which can be used for many things. And I have a compass to help maintain a direction.
Some extra things that would be useful in my bag for this situation:
Given everything in my bag, it's doubtful that I wouldn't be found or rescue myself within 24 hours, most likely.
@Bluemax It would really depend on the "wilderness" in question. In a desert? Not well. In a forest? I'd be fine. On the plains? Probably just fine. In the snow? 50/50.
I understand the hierarchy of survival priorities, and I know what kills most people, and I'm an excellent problem-solver - but I also know that all of that won't create water or shelter where there is none, and nothing to make it from. Thankfully, that's a pretty unrealistic scenario.
I believe i could although it is very easy to draw the longbow in this topic. I camp a lot, mostly in forests and woods. I have never faced a survival sitaution or life threatening event until now but i educate and prepare myself for such things. your strategical goal in a situation like that would be to escape the woods and get to civilization. Tactically you have to find the directions. You need to use sun, moss on trees and running water to get compass bearing roughly. Then follow the water staying near it both for navigation and drinking. what you can do to gather food and do other survival actions depend on items you have on yourself. If you have at least a knife things are easier. craving a spear like weapon from a branch, setting snares and hunting small animals like rabbit or squirel can be your ticket to survival. although you probably won't die of hunger in 3 days, you still need strength and energy for traveling and emergencies. at least 2 hours before it gets dark every night you should have already secured a spot to spend the night. this spot should be preferably right next to a steep hill or rock wall to keep at least one side perfectly safe. set traps and alarms around your campsite if you can. try to build a hammock and spend the night above ground if possible. do not cook your food to close to your sleeping time, do not leave food and waste near your campsite, animals can take scents from up to 40 kms away. if possible keep the fire going all night.
I can and have done so. The three biggest things to keep in mind are food, water and shelter. When it comes to food, DO NOT eat anything unless you 10000% know it is edible. Better to not eat than to eat something that makes you sick or impairs your senses. Humans can survive for 3 days without food. Water is a different story. Water is MORE crucial when in the woods because the temperature outside fluctuates and regular consumption of water keeps your PH levels balanced and helps regulate body temperature, making your body more adaptable to change. However, if you are unsure, boil the water for 20 minutes. That does not mean 20 minutes total, but 20 minutes AT A BOIL. Finally, one must find shelter. Humans cannot stay awake for days on end AND stay alert enough to survive. You must sleep at some point, but you need shelter when you sleep to keep yourself warm and to not be vulnerable to wildlife while you sleep. Keeping these things in mind, the first thing I would do when lost in the woods is secure water. If there is no water source, find a way to dig into the ground. Eventually you will find water underground. Once a water source is secure, find shelter or make shelter. The FINAL priority is food.
I was enrolled in 3 years of survival classes when I was a teen, it was part of a special program for "troubled teens" lol, which if you got bad grades back then, you were most definitely singled out as troubled...
Survival skills are simple, with lots of details lol.
The priorities: Stay dry if possible. Stay warm any way possible (if in colder climate), use a stick with string to start a fire, helps if we have string :P Find a water source or die.
Need to get any basic shelter. Some times a bush or tree canopy that is closer to the ground can work short-term, but need to be able to block wind and morning dew. When backpacking, we always carried tarps and string. It has 101 uses!
Food- hunt small game using what we called a 'rabbit stick', which is finding a branch about 1.5 feet long and in the area of thickness between a nickel and a quarter. You can wing that thing sideways and it you hit a rabbit, squirrel, or other pheasant or small game, you will most likely break a bone or two, rendering it stunned or crippled, then you run in and make the kill, skin, gut, then roast it. Forage for edible fruits and vegetables, only eat what you know is safe.
Use damp wood on fire to make lots of smoke if you know rescuers are searching for you.
Well first of all you will need water almost eminently and to find water when, you don't know were to look would a waste of time so after you have had a good night sleep or as good as you can then get up before the sun comes out find some big leaf weeds and take your shirt off now slowly some up the dew and when your shirt is full squeeze the water into your mouth if you have a container fill it up you can get 2or3 gallons of water before the sun drys everything up if you are in a snow covered area then just make fire from ice!!! Its really very simple take a big double handful of snow and hold it in your hands until it turns to ice then mold it into a lens and wallah use it to start a fire simply right that's about it for now next time I'll tell you how to make a figure four trap so you can catch something to eat
I live in the woods already off-grid, hunt and grow almost everything I eat anymore. Since I haven’t been traveling, I am now eating 100% homegrown and hunted. I have my own water too. The most difficult part of being in the elements is finding water first. If in the desert, use a plastic bag if available and create a low point with a rock where vapor will form and drip into a cup. If in the deep woods, find a creek with rapids, because the rapids or falls creates aeration that purifies somewhat. If stagnant water must be used, you would have to boil it and/or iodine it but that is for pathogens only. All you can do is hope it is free of poisons. The hunting, butchering and cooking part is easier. There are plenty of wild turkeys here while deer are so plentiful a good slingshot could reach one and knock it out; of course, a 300WIN MAG would be easier.
Can i come live with you? Just curious. It was my dream to live off grid.
The Australian Army taught me to survive in the bush for weeks.
During one part of the training, we were dropped individually in the wilderness and had to survive and make our way back to barracks.
We had a bit of water, no food, no compass, no map.
It is amazing how much food there is in the bush, once you know what to look for. The Aborigines did okay for about 60,000 years, because they knew what to eat and where to find it.
Here in Australia, where two third of the continent is a desert, water is the big problem.
The multitude of highly-dangerous snakes is another matter.
There are no big predators that would see a human as a meal.
Hardly if I had no food/drink. I couldn’t really kill an animal. I love them! But I’d buy meat lol.
However you can survive without food for three days. I’d just have to find some water source, which might not be everywhere... I live near the forest and there is no lake. You’d have to find something to sleep that keeps you safe.. Perhaps I’d sleep in a hunter’s house they keep on trees... but I’d take lots of leaves to cover myself cause it gets cold at night.
Three days wouldn’t be bad. Chances are I wouldn’t be lost. When I was a kid, my dad would walk me unknowingly deep into the woods and at any given moment stop and tell me to lead us back to the point of entry or vehicle... even though i hadn’t paid attention, I always found my way. When I was six years old, my mother learned to trust my skills as she’d get lost in the city and I would tell her turn here, this way, and get us to where she wanted to go.
Yes, and so could pretty much anyone if they *know* they would be rescued in three days.
Find a source of water (in the Sierra Nevadas for example, which are mountainous woods, one need only walk for about 30 minutes before you'd encounter *some* kind of stream) and lie down and rest for three days. Eat bugs if you must. If you don't exert yourself except to drink water, sleep a lot, you'll survive three days without food. People have gone weeks without food.
Also, in much of North America, a road or a town is never more than a day's walk. I am very good at navigating, including celestial navigation. I know which stars are which and which will be out any given time of year. I can navigate by observing the moon if it's too cloudy to see the stars, but the clouds aren't thick enough to obscure the moon.
Currently no but what's needed are a vast knowledge how how to protect yourself against animals, what foods you can eat vs ones you can't and how to make a safe proper shelter. These would just be for starters but are a solid vase of what you will need
Very hard for me not because i don't have any survival skills, in contrary, i can live in the woods more than that but my problem is the food, i cannot eat anything...
Men would survive. Women would fuck it up for themselves and cry for help the entire time.
Id build a lean too near a body of water. Use some willows to tie it up and make snare traps. Build a fire and hang out as i roast rabbits over the camp fire.
Women would be starving hungry and begging for a man to save her XD
Sure. If I'm going somewhere that remote I'm packing extra food, supplies and beer. And I'll take my dog. If I get hungry enough I will eat him. Unless his 110 pound butt gets hungry and decides to eat me first... OK scrap the dog. I'm taking my cat.
If it's spring or summer sure. I just finished my botany course so I could probably find some edible plants. If not, three days and nights would be a time I can spend without food no problem. I'd just have to find some source of water.
Which flowers can you eat?
I've got my survival badge from the Cub scouts (do they even exist in the States) which tells me I have all the survival skills I need, in reality 2 hours without WIFI and I panic so I think I'll probably stick to the Hotel! lol
Yeah, probably. But in a miserable condition of starvation and thirst.
I would be found barely surviving.
I've never had any survival practice before.
Definitely not. My fear of the darkness and being isolated has only been rising up and never degraded. I’m not even aware of the strategies to survive by yourself in the wilderness.
What will I eat or drink for three days if im lost in the woods if I'm unequipped with the necessities to survive? I'm a city lad so I will probably not be able to make it out alive in such a situation.
No. I've watched enough horror movies to know that I'd make it to the last day and I'd hear some people in the distance during the last seconds of my life before a witch or demon would drag me back into the woods and eat me.
I would hands down not make it and probably become even more lost.
Granted you never know what you're capable until in the moment.
Sure. I'll be severely dehydrated and very hungry, but 3 days without food or clean water is doable. Not ideal in any sense of the word.
Id grab a baby lamb and just go to the woods cuddle up to it for warmth if it jumps and runs away fair enough but they usually don't 😂
I think it would be harder to die in 72 hours than it would be to survive lmao.
Probably; I watched a lot of Man Vs Wild, Survivor Man, and Man Woman Wild. Plus I have a pretty good survival kit in the trunk of my car.
I definitely could. Beautiful art by the way, one of your best yet!
Evil? No way, mysterious and emotional more like. Which are two very beautiful things to have incorporated in your art.
Just know that art is something for yourself, as a fellow artist I know this. I usually get told my art is too sexual, but I'm expressing myself!
I did a question on my art, one of my photos sucked so bad though, lmao. But I'm better at silhouette painting rather than actual pencil drawing
Lol :)
I'd probably just sleep through it 😂 seems like that's all I ever do, so I'm gonna go with yes.
In the summer maybe
Winter no way
I have some basic skills and could forage for food and find a river or some fresh water
I wouldn't be thriving but I would be able to survive
yes. lots of survivalist training, common sense, used to being independant, i have a way with nature.
I could and have... of course i was prepared to go out there... my only problem would be finding shit to eat thats not gross...;;im at a mcgyver level of bulding shit. .. salt water lighter... no problemd
Well it won't happen to me , I would find water , cut limbs for shelter, hope I have matches to produce heat, make a cane pole to fish , or a spear for fish.
I survived 9 tours in Afghanistan, 2 in Iraq, and 1 in Syria. 3 days and 3 nights doesn't even get my heartrate beating faster.
Yes.
as for how well by finding running water like a stream or river and by eating bugs and insects until I could hunt for actual food.
All I need is Dora the Explora.
The B! t*H got everything in that bag.
😍
Yes, I was a scout. I can flint knap, start a bow fire, basic food gathering, first aid, direction finding, etc.
I would hang myself on a tree on the first night, checkmate.
Yes I could survive for three days and three nights in the woods for a loft mainly because my crying will keep the animals away and probably help people find me faster
Could I survive? Yes. However, I never get lost. I’m too damn effective at Land Nav.
I live in the woods...
Me after having watched every episode of man vs wild : let's do this!
I don't know if I'll survive but I'd give it a try
My secret is to have one of my best friends. She turns full on survivor during situations like this
I grew up in the wood, and have lived in cities most my adult life. The wood scare me not. I will live out there for months if you let me lol
If I go somewhere remote I keep food and water with me, also spare socks, plasters etc etc,,,
Probably yeah. As long as its not like any Blair Witch monsters yeah :D
I would last the amount of time it would take to my phone's battery to die
Extremely easily aslong as i had tempature appropriate clothes and my knife and flint
I think so. Would be mighty hungry, but I expect I could make it.
In the jungles of my country, I would be eaten by a jaguar, or poisoned by a snake 🤷🏽♂️
Food and water from foraging. Fire from woods. I would like a lighter or gas though
Anybody could go three days I guaranteed pickup amd didn't get eaten. Last that long without water
Survive, probably. But in what shape I'd be after the fact remains to be seen.
I will look for a source of water if i found one i will survive
Most healthy people could if it isn’t too cold
Lol no I'd probably die😂
I could. Not panic and build a shelter first
All you need is Vodka and Adidas.
Relax, slatra, live in a tree.
Yes for sure but I would be really scared
Very easily
3 days? I’d be fine
3 days is nothing, water and shelter are the only things you’d really need to worry about
