Could you survive an unexpected month in the wild?

I couldn’t accurately predict that because of the many various factors involved in whether or not a person can survive without the amenities with which they normally surround themselves.
Most people absolutely could not survive a month because most people don’t carry an adequate water filtration system with them everywhere, all the time. Of all of the things we can survive, going more than a week without clean drinking water isn’t among them. Without a way to find and clean water for drinking, everyone dies. So that becomes a matter of sheer luck.
Even the bare essentials for a surviving a month in the wild will fill a backpack. Everyone seems to carry a backpack these days, but i’m betting none of them are carrying survival gear.
Yes, I've been backpacking into wilderness areas and climbing mountains since about age 15. Solo and with small groups of 1-3 other people. I do that stuff summer and winter. I was a US Army Ranger Airborne officer for 15 years. I've been in jungles, deserts, temperate mountain terrain, and arctic tundra. Can surprises happen? Sure. But on the whole I can be relatively comfortable in the wild and get myself out OK.
@Staximus How long does emergency fat last?
@Staximus I wouldn't last long at all. Fast metab too.
@Staximus ,
You seem to be the expert here and far more experienced in wilderness survival than I am. Why am I gonna die because I'm not fat?
@Staximus ,
Who said I wouldn’t have food, LOL? Plants, insects, reptiles, mammals, birds, fish, amphibians. There’s usually food if you can find it and process it.
Definitely! I love to fish and make fires. I know my plants well enough to know what I can’t eat.
I don’t know how to hunt but I’m wanting to get my gun license and start hunting soon!
I do know how to skin a carcass and know how to cut one up.
I’m fit enough to survive the wild. I handle heavy weight daily and gym.
Regardless of all this, if I need to, I will.
So, I have no concerns about being in the wild.
Actually, please place me there now. I’d love to not work and pay taxes!
Realistically it'd depend on how I got there and what's available. I'd need to improvise a lot of things including my survival skills... which may or may not spell a quick death!
Now, if nature takes pity on me and let me scrape by, I might live long enough to drink my despair.
Sounds tasty.

Unexpected? Doubtful. I'd need my shotgun, shells and some supplies. Being dropped in the middle of nowhere with nothing when there's no food that can be foraged, no nearby water, no way to purify the water... Also my buckknife or Marine knife. You gotta have a knife.
With nothing? Slim chance.
Oh nahh. I am the most un outdoorsy person ever… i naturally prefer to stay at home ! Home is safe! Anyways I did a survival camp a few years ago where I volunteered we had to be in the wild uses compasses and build out own outside beds and stuff and do camp fires and eat MRE’s … never again😃
if only there were known to me access to fresh water, then probably yes... but in my climate only... as survival depends greatly on your knowledge of poisonous plants and animals...
Depends on where my plane crashes and what natural resources are available. Once I've eaten the other passengers I'd start on the in-flight meals and then move on to the local flora and fauna.
HA! Fecking funny! Rugby player….
With my husband yes. He's an outdoors type.
You're married at 18?
@happydayz234 It's gag leave her be.
It might be an arranged marriage
you mean new york city... like if I lost my phone? No, there's no bathrooms and goodl uck getting any help for even free water. like all the others, they'd toss me into the lagoon and eaten by sharks.
lost in the woods... my contacts dry up and be blind, eaten by wolves. I'd become wolf poop, essentially bacteria. even those die off... I'd be dirt, which turns into a tree eventually.
So I gues I'd survive as a tree...
Depends where " the wild " is really , I wouldn't want it , but in half decent location yeah I could do one month , hopefully it's a deserted island with a decent beach and plenty of tree cover , access to drinking water , Id be okey.
Yes I have good survival skills and love the outdoors , I also enjoy cooking on a fire instead of cooking in my kitchen , i enjoy fishing and hunting as well, , so I could more than likely survive if need be
Unexpected would be very hard. I guess it would dependent where and when in the wild. If there is slate around I think I'm ok, I can build up from there quickly, if not I am not sure I could make shelter fast enough to stay warm the first night in winter.
Doubtful. It's also unlikely I would find myself in that position.
I'm sure those that have say the same thing. The one time a buddy talks you into being adventurous. "Just an hour flight, we'll be fine."
An hour flight? To where? Almost no one survives and airliner crash. The number of people who have, and then been somehow capable of walking out of remote wilderness is less than twenty. That's far beyond unlikely. The way most people get lost in the wilderness is that they hike in and then can't find their way back.
@slatyb Pilots are capable of landing a plane without engine or electrics. Doesn't guarantee a crash. Just leaves you stranded so long as you had room and conditions to land. Bush pilots get stranded in Alaska quite a bit. Usually sudden weather changes. Much shorter time.
I was raised to be an outdoorsmen. But you're talking about dropped in the middle of nowhere with no tools. And we haven't even addressed my health. Am I injured? Assuming I'm not hurt in anyway that would lower my constitution. I think I could survive. I don't think I'd thrive though.
That's way too unspecific. Like one could be stranded on a coastal rocky island with no source of fresh water apart from rain during the dry season.
Generally
I'll tell you if I get back :D
I do have a high motivation, and a somehow useful skill-set. If that is enough...
we cannot tell. BUT!: If I don't make it, I may return as a ghost and haunt a few people who deserve it.
Possibly. It would depend on where and what the weather is like. If temperate and in the forest, I would probably survive. Desert or snow-capped mountain... I'd die.
No I don't think so. I've lived in cities majority of my life. I doubt I have the survival skills to last long in the wild, if I'm being honest.
Its been a long time since scouts, but I think I remember enough for the basics, food, water, shelter and fire. I'm not sure how long I could survive but probably long enough to be found.
Oh yes, lived in a Village and i can easily bypass that month, specially without the noise pollution, that would be... Heaven...🥰
Yes, in summer in central Europe without any problems. Winter could be hard without hunting rifle.
Depends upon how much game there is. I have hypermetabolism so a long fast would kill me.
Same
Nope! I can barely get through a weekend camping in a tent.
Depends on what wild you are talking about. The Yukon in January or the mountains of central Arizona in May?
Just generally. Basics somewhat available with effort.
No I would probably end up being eaten by an animal. You?
This Q has reminded me to travel with three months of my medication. That would be the hardest.
Yes, I have some good survival skills. As long as i could find water i could probably make it.
i’ve been to survival training camps, so yeah I can survive. Are we talking about ice cold snow or just the summer mountains
I would lose weight and be cranky at the end but yes, with reasonable resources such as water around. On water alone we should be able to last 3 weeks. Throw in a few worms and you can make it. Everything else just makes it that much easier.
Nope, if a bear hadn't eaten me by day one I would probably be trying to find a cliff to jump off by day two.
I mean... it's not a 0% chance I'd survive, but chances are I'd be dead.
I have zero survival skills. So the dice are loaded from the start. However, I am very adaptable, therefore, I might have a chance.
For a month? Yes for sure. More than that like 6 months then most likely I'd be struggling.
I would dehydrate in a few days but i could eat leaf when i was hungry, maybe get to a river?
I'd like to think I could, but all the stuff I do know I never put into practice. So probably won't do very well.
Nope. Without my pain medication I'd be driven even more crazy than I already happen to be.
Fuck yeah no problem I’m a crazy son of a bitch I’ll survive anywhere.
If i had to yes but it wouldn't be easy
Yes. It’s not unexpected I’ve trained for it.
Why in the world would I do that to myself?
I am very unskilled in survival. I would need a friend!
A month? I'd die within 3-4 days.
Take me with you we'll be fine just need a few things so we can build a shelter
I learned in the military but you can learn from YouTube they have tutorials on everything
Your so welcome.
No, and neither would I want to.
Probably not, but you never know
Be fine as long as I can find water
With no tools?
Depends where and how wild
Probably I tend to do things when I have to.
My arrogance says yes.
I'm pretty sure I could.
Yes, I believe so.
No I at least need a shower.
A month, no way...
Won't be easy but I would. What about you?
probably
Pfttt. You’ve never even taken care of yourself in the real world, and you think you can survive in the wilderness? What a joke
how would u know? yes i go camping with my dad at least twice a year, i probably know more about surviving than u do.
There is nothing in life you know more than me about.
trust me. there is.
Sure. Maybe why your generation is so obsessed with TikTok. That might be something you know more than me about. Certainly nothing of value 😆
keep telling yourself that🥱🥱🥱
I don’t need to tell myself it. I already know it lmao 😂
riight keep telling urself that
I doubt it.
yep i could
