It looks like a comedian called Dane Cook did a special back in 2005 referring to a character called Karen that no body like.

Check this short clip of his special

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yIt just a conceptualization like peeping Tom. Some names take on new meanings, though I can tell you it likely doesn't predate 2001. The song Short Skirt/Long Jacket by Cake, has a line: "She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen". She's a positive character suggesting that is a positive action. I personally noticed the Karen insult in the last 5 years, so I get the sense it doesn't predate 2014. If you are Karen I guess you can accept the Cake song, verses the insult. I've met some pretty and nice Karens, but the character named Karen has always been around but has taken on the innocuous name. The entitled middle aged slob (typically Democrat, but there are other varieties) has been around for ages. However the title of Karen seems to have happened in the last 5 years.

+1 ySomebody used that name as a joke that refer to a generic white woman and it became a meme. Kids and young adults are so fed up with older generations thinking they run the world, and treating others like they don't matter. People are using this name as an insult to get back at those people.

Kyles are all stupid, Jennifers are all sluts. I'm sure there's others but those are the ones I have stereotyped over the years

ah ok, i guess we have the same with "kevin" and "jaqueline" in my culture xD

My aunt Karen is the exact opposite of a "karen" she actually changed her name due to the stereotyping

The term came out because people were using it as code between themselves rather than use the word "bitch" or some such. Because these people are just annoyingly rude and demanding. Thanks to the internet the term has spread to the general public. But it was initially just term workers in retail would use to avoid offense.
00 ReplyIt’s just a name for entitled middle aged, (many times racist) women who threaten to call the cops and always want to speak to the manager. I think the name Karen gets a bad reputation because it’s a popular name for women in that age group.
00 ReplyI went out with a girl named Karen once and ironically she works as a manager.
Of course she's nothing like the steriotype but still it's pretty funny.00 Reply
+1 yA lot of women in their forties and early fifties are named Karen cause it was popular back then. And women that age are considered annoying by people in their teens and twenties.
02 Reply- +1 y
It's not that they're "considered annoying" - it's that they're incredibly self-entitled and feel the whole world revolves around them and their whims, and they demand that everyone changes everything to fit whatever they happen to want in the moment or they're going to "call the manager" or "report you to the police" or whatever. Annoying isn't a big deal, but Karens go FAR beyond that. They want to get people fired for not making special, against-policy exceptions to the rules just for them, or they want to report people for doing things that are perfectly fine to do and harms no one.

+1 yMemes, mostly. "Karen" is a stereotypical white woman name, which tends to be the demographic most associated with "Karen" behavior.
00 ReplyNo idea. Someone told me they say Karen instead of saying 'cunt'.
I'd rather call you a cunt than Karen. Anyone can be named Karen, so you know when I say cunt, I'm talking to you.00 Reply
ahahha00 ReplyI hate this term.
It’s ridiculous and I’m sure people with the name get p’d off.00 Reply503 opinions shared on Other topic. It was a stereotypical white female name, used to describe women who do things like ask for a manager or whatever (which is another stereotype for white middle-aged females).

Anonymous(36-45)+1 ysimple racism. People looking for a basic name to use to generalize and insult entire groups of white women is where it got its start from.
13 Reply- +1 y
you realize that black, yellow, white, red all can be called karen right? xD but i guess everything is a racism thing nowadays.
Opinion Owner+1 yi told you how it started. It started as an insult to white women. It's been hijacked and used for multiple races of women, so yes I realize. I also realize people bitch about it any time a POC is called a "Karen". Hmm, I wonder why that is.
- +1 y
what's a POC?
