Sometimes they are, though. Sometimes people working customer service need yelled at, there's a lot of incompetent buffoons working CS who deserve to be formally slapped. I wish formal slapping was legal. Nothing violent, just like a formal gesture of disgrace as you slap them across the face for poor service.

Then you label us as Karen for calling your manager. Make formal slapping a thing, and it will make customers very happy, and workers weary of slacking off. Your job in customer service in not to be a stickler for "the rules" but to make sure the customer is always right, even if they are wrong. Hey, it's not your company, it's your job. Just make the customer happy and avoid stirring up a Karen. Or welcome formal slapping.

But the customer isn't always right. If you're demanding I do something that is against my policy to do so, im not gonna do it. So do I just get slapped then?

That's what you're not understanding... well, in training they used to say "the customer is always right". That means you are on the side of the angry Karen, even if you can't do what they want, they're still "right" in your opinion. That's why you go to your own manager and see if they can do anything about it so that Karen doesn't feel like you don't actually want to help. It's not your job to defend a crap policy of the company, and it's not your job to defend the speed or efficiency of the service.

If you work at BK and you laugh at a customer when they ask to buy a single slice of cheese because you've never heard of that before, just slap yourself. Because it's a thing and so before insulting the customer, go and figure out how you can do that. I've wanted to slap a BK employee for this reason before and she would have deserved it.

It's your fault if it looks like it's your fault. Ask for assistance in figuring that out. If you just assume it's not possible and just tell them no, then you run the risk of being wrong and coming across as unhelpful and frankly useless to Karen, at which point she raises her voice to Karen levels. Hence Karen is always right.

When I worked CS I used to watch at least a dozen people per day run straight into the door, with their face hitting the glass, who went in and out the wrong door. And years worse, those people are out there driving around.

You will deal with many dumbasses yes, and sometimes it's you who will be dumb. Just follow this philosophy and you will have far lesser problems.

It’s something of a stereotype but many people have seen someone who fits it. A Karen is usually a type of woman you see in public that is mad about something and she wants everyone to know it. She is typically a mid 30s to late 40s white woman. She often has short hair because as a busy, active and super involved mom, long hair is too much upkeep. She demands to speak to the manager and the rules should change. She’s the reason why the line is held up for 15 minutes. Then she guzzles wine or Whiteclaw when she puts the kids to bed. I shop at Target often and I see this type of woman every so often.
