I had computer game controller shit the sheets on me. I don’t really own a fully functional computer lmfao, it’s just not something that’s that important to me, but I have a couple jacked up old laptops that were hand-me-downs ten years ago that I can do I couple things with. Biggest thing I used my old Dell for😂 was old school video game emulators, OG NES, Atari, Sega Genesis, mostly. Had some controller that was basically like a PS2 controller, Logitech I think, and I could play my childhood favorites every 3 or 4 years for like two weeks when I’d feel nostalgia for them. I’m jonesing again, it was working at first, but then the games stopped responding. Bought a new one, figured it would be fine, nope... doesn’t work with either Windows XP or Windows 10, and that’s what the two I have are set up with. Literally the same controller, I don’t understand. So I gotta figure something else out, but at some point I bail because I play video games for like one short period a year, on average. Maybe even longer. But when I want them, I want them, so this is pissing me off, haha.
@msc545 Not yet. I’m confused because the Logitech one just all of a sudden stopped working. I’ve had it for like ten years so I figured it might have just died of old age, so I bought the exact same one and it still doesn’t respond. Like I said, it’s telling me it’s only compatible with other operating systems, but I don’t understand why one worked and the same one doesn’t. Maybe it’s just formatted differently since it’s newer. I think there are some other controllers that might work, on is an XBox One controller I think. It runs about $70 I think, and I can afford it, but I’m kinda cheap, lmao, I’m obsessed with “value” and if I’ll get $70 worth of enjoyment over the life of it. The answer is probably yes, haha, but I just waffle on it, it’s my own fault😂
Sorry but I have to make this joke "I'm running Vista x32?"
Srsly though it's getting harder to run older game controllers. If running Win10 recent-ish flavor, xbone controller with a wired connection should be the safest/easiest bet... I'm using a 360 controller with a cheap-assed aftermarket receiver that I keep having to reinstall but it was cheap and using "Gopher" as an emulator. Google/YouTube your hardware, I bet someone is making it work
@Old_Golden @msc545 Now I’m getting exposed, we’re getting into lingo I don’t understand haha. I’m just trying to plug something in and use it, hopefully. Do Xbox 360s have a wire I can use and just plug into a USB? I have a 360, just would need a wire, if that’s what we’re talking about
@msc545 yeah, so that’s what was weird and I’m guessing is just an updated format with the new Logitech I bought, which is the same model as the old one, but I probably bought that in like 2010. The laptop I was running the NES emulator on had Windows XP. Just stopped working one day, thought it was the controller. Thought there’d be no issue with the same model, but it’s unresponsive like the other one was. Box says I can just plug and play, computer recognizes the new hardware, I can find it as a device and get to a calibration screen, but it doesn’t register when I push buttons.
Then I tried it on a newer laptop I was given, that’s windows 10, but same exact problem and result.
Ok, does the manufacturer have a sup0port number you can call? I have a feeling it won't work on anything more recent than Windows XP, but let's make sure. If that is the case, please ask them if it will run in an XP environment on a virtual machine. If it will do that, I will tell you how to set up a VM.
Or just search "xbox 360 pc wireless gaming receiver"
@Old_Golden What do you think this will do?
The mechanism for raising and lowering the convertible top on my Porsche Boxster stopped working. This is the second time it's happened. Took me about three hours to fix it. Porsche is a very nice and really fun car, but they are unreliable as hell and cost a fortune to fix if you have a professional shop do it. Even if you do it yourself, which I sort of can for minor repairs, the parts are ridiculously expensive and mostly only available from the dealer with notable exceptions that are *also* very expensive.
#1 It's German so of course it's expensive, it's supposed to last 90,000 miles at the very least if you don't take care of them/meet the recommended service checkpoints, depending on your year/model. Usually near twice that (150-200k miles), if you buy a decent example. #2 They're unreliable if you do it wrong and/or with cheap parts, just like everything else. They're expensive to get done properly bc it takes the right tools, the right knowledge, and OEM or similar parts to do correctly. If you want cheap replacement parts and cheap labor, buy a Honda or a Yoda. What year is your Boxter? Older models have known issues with the drivetrain for the soft tops. You're lucky if you haven't had engine/tranny problems first. Get on the forums, get on YouTube, everyone has fixed everything already! Research a bit and I have faith you'll figure it out. Good luck!
@Old_Golden Repairing the top mechanism is not difficult, it's just time-consuming and the parts are more expensive than I think they should be given the materials they are made of and the simplicity of them. The fact that it failed twice, albeit for different reasons, suggests poor design. It's a 2006 Boxster base with 45K miles on it.
My kindle stopped working for an hour or so when I tried to open an unusually long book - it was around 60,000 pages. I no longer read the book through kindle since the entire collection is available for free online.
What Gen Kindle
@Old_Golden I’m not sure what generation it is but I downloaded my first version around 2-4 years ago.
Adobe Premiere. I have been working on a huge video project and that takes up a lot of memory.
Same for me but with DaVinci resolve 😂

My furnace in the middle of winter. It's starting to happen almost once a day. The thermostat tells the furnace to kick on. I know the furnace is getting the signal, but it's not kicking on for some reason. The thermostat only sends the signal once. So if the furnace doesn't turn on it doesn't get a second signal. Eventually I'll start noticing it's getting cold and go manually reset the thing.
Maybe this will help:
Check Your Circuit Breakers. Even if you use a gas or propane furnace, some of the components run on electricity. If your furnace doesn’t switch on, the circuit breaker could be shut off. Check your circuit breaker panel to make sure all switches for your HVAC system are set to “ON.”
Check Your Thermostat. If your furnace isn’t turning on, the thermostat may have lost its programming or reset. It may even simply be set on the wrong setting. For test purposes, set your thermostat about 10 degrees hotter than the current temperature to see if the system turns on. Also, double check to make sure it’s set to “HEAT.”
Check the Drain Pan. Drain pans collect water that has been removed from the air by your HVAC system. When the system is working as it should, the water should be pumped out or drain out automatically. If the pan is full of water, a triggered float switch could be preventing your furnace from turning on. If this is the case, make sure the pan’s drain is clear or that the pump is working properly.
Check Your Air Filter. If you’ve been neglecting your air filter, it could be seriously clogged, and a safety feature may be preventing your system from turning on.
Check the Pilot Light. Many modern furnaces won’t kick on if the pilot light is out. This is a safety feature designed to prevent pumping natural gas or propane into your home.
Check Your Natural Gas or Oil Supply. Lack of fuel could prevent your furnace from turning on. The best way to check your fuel supply is trying another gas appliance in your home, such as your stove. If it doesn’t work either, contact your gas or propane company.
@msc545
The breakers are good. The thermostat is working. I know the furnace is getting the signal.
I suspect its :
The igniter is not working every time.
The gas valve is not opening every time. ( two valves actually - one for the pilot and one for the main gas )
The flame sensor is not working.
Or the control board is not functioning, which could affect any of the above.
The problem is that it's intermittent. So I can't easily watch it happen since it might happen once in 24 hours or less. All I know is that it doesn't light sometimes (or doesn't stay lit). Also, I know the damper opens, which means the furnace is getting the signal.
I need to get a second person over here to turn the thermostat on and off while I watch the furnace to see what it's doing. That should narrow it down.
@msc545
Lol, yea.
Although I was just thinking there is probably a way to fake the signal down by the furnace without someone else doing it and having to yell up and down the stairs.
This is not my first problem either. I replaced the control board a couple for years ago. I got a used one for a good price. I got it for about $25, while a new one is $150. There are a lot of HVAC guys out there who pull parts from old appliances and sell them.
I kind of have mixed feelings about problems like this - I hate them when I really need the furnace, like now - and I sort of enjoy solving the problem and feel a lot of satisfaction when I can fix it... so... you know.
What kind of signal is it - just DC electrical? You could take a voltmeter and measure the voltage and amperage, and then duplicate that with a battery or some other power source in a more convenient location. Just occurred to me - maybe the wire that the signal travels on is partially defective?
@msc545
It's been a couple of years since I replaced that control board. At the time I understood a lot of the circuit. I've forgotten most of it now. I have a full schematic of the electrical, but not the digital board. I THINK the thermostat actuates a relay. I can fake that easy enough. The board has power, and I can probably just jumper it from the + voltage to the relay.
Yes, it's DC digital. I THINK the AC to DC conversion is done on the control board.
I'd say my game system and my phone are glitching up a little bit by being slow but that is the way of technology unfortunately 😅
😂 true, my computers been like that lately but I don't blame it considering what I'm doing
I needed to reset my PC to factory condition, so I backed everything on my external hard drive. I reset my PC and when I went to transfer the information back to my PC, the external hard drive didn't work anymore.
Did it ask you to "reformat" or just didn't recognize the drive?
@Old_Golden
It didn't recognize the drive.
I took the external hard drive to Best Buy, where I bought it, to see if it can be fixed and they said no.
Did you try it on a different computer?
@Old_Golden
Yes, I did. I have a desktop PC and two notebook PC. The external hard drive wouldn't work on either of them. I did Google what I should do and I read one article saying I should put it in the freezer overnight. I did that but it still didn't work. In any case, I just bought another one, and this time I spent the extra $$ for extended warranty.
The freezer trick only works on disk drives with spinning platters, and it's important to put them in a ziplock to prevent moisture intrusion. Try these www.pcmag.com/.../what-to-do-when-your-external-hard-drive-wont-show-up
Last resort would be to do a quick reformat so it writes over everything and use software like Piriform's "Recuva" to salvage what you can
@Old_Golden
I did try to reformat the external hard drive but none of my computers would even recognize the drive. I did install a program similar to Recuva but my PCs still wouldn't recognize the drive.
some of the buttons on the side of my mouse. my "back" button is on my mouse and it was doing a weird delay of like 10 seconds, and if i switched tabs before the delay ended it would "back" the other tab instead
restarted the computer fixed it
Thank you for "turning it off and turning it back on again before calling someone!"
My phone. Was taking pictures on a rainy day. It was already glitching and not charging properly by that point but I guess the moisture from the rain got inside and gave it the finishing blow.
The lights in my dash. Going to pull it and replace them with LEDs, gotta figure out how to wire the resistors first
make sure you do the thing that does the other thing before you do the thing okay?
Oh fuck, I forgot the second thing! Now my eighth thing is fourteenth thinging!
Well gosh darnit golden! *sighs* Here, I'll buy you some time so you can get all the things back in order. Just be careful man. It's not only your job on the line here.
thanks my man, your dad taught you well! I'll taught the kids the idea of especially, Italian. Not sure who watched the cuisine of united
My old Netgear router. Let's just say "it got fried" for lack of better words to describe its failure to work.
Did it give up The Ghost? Or just Retire?

Was it plugged into the wall? Error message?
it was plugged in and the screen was just black no message or nothing
