Thats why I ask , guys flip out over him all the time
They are cute but I'm more of a fan of golden retrievers
or golden doodles myself
But I think German shepherds make good guard dogs and maybe guys like a good guard dog 🤔
If you look at the picture on my profile, the white dog was my White Lab / German Shepherd, Daisy.
Small penis - Big Dog syndrome
They are living to the stereotype , they have to be a big man with a big dog that they probably hope is angry and frightening , same reason that men ( mostly ) or drug affected individuals want dangerous cross breeds.
They will present other reasons because they are not being honest with themselves , they are purely concerned with image , not with the animal itself , but thats guys for you.
They could adore a beautiful large poodle , that could run and jump , they just follow the expectations that have been pushed upon them since birth.
@Jaysonava
Yes , smetimes its a car , sometimes a large or over aggressive dog
But , the cause is always the same , makes em feel LARGE and incharge. Sad really :)
I'm not a guy, but I do love my German shepherds. They're very intelligent and active dogs! They are wonderful if you have the energy and training capacity to train them. Maybe that's why some men like them? They also look badass.
Where I'm from, i don't know one guy that likes them.
That includes where i grew up, and the college i go to, and the place i live at now that I'm in college

This is just my ramblings and my disdain might show ; )
Dogs in general are awesome, however I'm a Labrador Retriever fan through and through. As a child I grew up with Labs so my first dog was a Lab. Training a dog to do more than just be a family pet has its own rewards. My last Lab never made it to a field trial but he was a freaking stud, he wasn't neutered (I am a responsible pet owner and I will never spay or neuter my dogs but that is another topic) but he was built like a tank and could run forever. He never fathered a litter but it would have been cool to see the genetic traits passed on, with my next dog I will play my hand at passing genetics.
My dad dated a lady after divorcing my mom and she had a German Shepard, my brother just fell in love with that dog. He let the dog lick his face *remember a dog cleans it's own ass with their tongue* and sleep in his bed when the girlfriend brought her dog over *all dogs shed, especially a Shepard*. After graduating college he got a Shepard and he paid a ton of money for one that was from a literal champions bloodline and would have been an awesome dog for the police force, that is where one littermate went. Of course the dog was super hyper and needed to be worked every day.
Playing fetch with a dog is NOT working a dog!! A Lab that is worked for example needs to be challenged in a field with some dead and live birds, over obstacles and the live doves have their feathers clipped and a Lab will not only find the bird but bring it back every time, while never killing the bird. Labs are great family dogs so interactions with the family should never be a problem. My hope is that my point being made?
Anyway, my brother somehow got the breeder to take back the first dog all while he got another puppy. It is hilarious because he literally plays fetch with the dog on the weekends only, and that's training in his mind. A few weeks ago he took his dog to a sheep farm *they use the sheep there in herding trials, so this keeps the sheep used to being chased* where he paid $50 where his dog chased a few lambs around for twenty minutes, in a small pen. After I hung up the phone I literally laughed out loud because my brother "Could see the herding instincts of his Shepard." He makes too much money because he won't tell me how much he paid for the puppies and just driving to the sheep farm was a total of two-and-a-half hours (just driving!!) and he paid $200 along with renting a car where he paid a cleaning fee because of the hair (he doesn't have his own car). His previous dogs (one was a Lab) were mutts that never minded for anything so I don't expect anything different. He thinks it makes him look tough to have a Shepard, I don't think that, I just think he looks like a poor owner because he can't get his dogs to mind.
Quick caveat; when I lived in Phoenix about a decade ago, if I was cleaning my F250 and I would make my Lab sit on the power station/box by the house. A neighbor was into dog fighting and he had a two year old Pit bull. One day the Pit got loose and came charging for my Lab. It was awesome because as the Pit bull came up, my Lab jumped on him and pinned him; throat clinched and all, as the owner of the Pit came over yelling. As I got my Lab let the Pit loose, the Pit was coughing as he was being pulled back home, so I know my Lab would have killed the Pit if I would have let him.
My uncles would breed dogs and shepherds were very popular, first because they're very smart dogs and they're also very energetic in general... but it all comes down to the their individual personality and also the owner.
A German Shepered should have some basic training, and it is easy to do it, because they're very intelligent dogs, but they should also be trained and socialized with kids, pets and other people, since they are amont the MOST loyal dogs, they can become a bit terroritorial and distrust "strangers" they can get defensive like that.
I would strongly advise you, if what you say is true that your four month year old puppy is a terrorist, because as adults, these dogs can pull three times their own weight, they're very strong dogs and you won't want this kind of dog scared by a kid or another dog, and then strike back by instinct.
German Shepard's are just down right adorable... but not one I would take into a fight with me. I have worked and jumped out of planes with the right dog holstered to me.
They are much lighter than a GS... but what they lack in weight they make up in sheer determination to just freaking destroy. That would be my personal fave The Belgian Malinois,
Also know as the Maligator! Yet, obedient, smart as hell and ready to rip peoples faces off... if allowed.
I love German shepherds because they resemble like wolves to me and very daring and dangerous - which they are not lol because they are very loving and affectionate
I know all dogs are :)
I had 1 when I was around 16 and he passed away when i was 22 :(
Then I got another one he is with me 8 years and I love him so much
He is like the son brother and not a dog for me :)
I don't know why guys like them in general, but this breed just gets my attention heart and mind whenever I see them whether its my dog or not I will just go to them directly :)
The first thing that I thought of after reading this question, I think men like German Shepherds because of the qualities that these dogs have that are similar to the human male. Not trying to make this all fancy or anything but these dogs are known for loyalty for being fierce, and AR protective. I think even if we're not good at each one of these, we still would like to think that this is what people see in US
I had two good G/S buddies (I did not own them);
they are large enough and robust so that you don't hurt them when you go playing ''boys' outdoors games'' :)
Other appeals:
- they look like real dogs are meant to look like (some dogs look like a pillow, or like a swine, or a rat) )
- they are highly disciplined (trainable), reliable and attentive
- they have 'culture' (a gentleman of sorts, unlike a Pitbull that rather comes along like a backstreet rapper)
They’re athletic smart and generally serve as the alpha. They’re extremely loyal and I love their aesthetic. A German Shepherd is my favorite dog. I always loved having our K9 Zeus working on my same watch. Made my job easier many times. Such a good boy. He’s about to retire and I’d love to keep him.
Men are recognized as being the "Protector" in the Human Sapien species. German Shepherds are most recognized for being protective in the Canine family. That is the "string" that connects these two beings together.
Thumb up
The German Shepherd has always been associated with men and strength. Most men want a dog that looks the part of dignity, and command; your best friend, and well disciplined! This is how the Shepherd is seen.
because they are natural and aren't deformed dogs for show
German shepherds are healthy dogs generally and are protective and alert, those are nice traits of a dog that makes him loyal and useful to us to protect us and our families
girls on the other hand like chihuahua...
i guess, cause that comes closest to what a "dog" is. a breed of wolf. unlike these cutesy, imbred, tiny abominations that are more akin to cats or rats... or this completely bizarre bullshit called "pugs". i don't know what sick mind bread this trash. like what was their idea? "let's make a breed of dog that seems like their entire life is insufferable pain"?
I can't say that I ever really liked German shepherds. If anything I have liked collies. I used to walk a couple back in high school as part of a house sitting gig.
Shepherd types are loyal by nature especially the german ones. They look bad ass too and if you are able to train them well you will always have a buddy to play with.
But the key here is loyal a german Shepherd loves you no matter what.
And come on Just look at them how can you not like
The German Shepherd is a good breed of dog: intelligent, courageous, athletic, hardy, affectionate and a good bed warmer.
They make excellent canine companions.
While I was grieving the death of my last German Shepherd, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who needed rescue came into my life.
Staffies have a face that only their mother could love. They are also excellent canine companions for a man.
My first dog was a Swiss Shepherd. Beautiful girl. Pure white coat but shed like anything. Not fun on a blue carpet! She was 12 when she succombed to liver cancer, but was fiercely protective of us her whole life.
When I look for another dog I'll consider another Swiss, but I really want an Irish Wolfhound
For me, it's their vaguely wolf-like appearance, and the physical strength that comes with being a large dog breed.
Plus, they're reliable dogs for police and military forces.
I love them. I should show you this painting I got of prince
Because they're big, scary-looking, aggressive dogs.
Because they are beautiful animals.
The ins and out of it is that dogs and man co habitat and have a symbiotic relationship and a strong mutual affection. The culture between the species, human and dog, is intertwined.
Dogs are fucking radical. I love dogs more than most women. Some women I meet I just wanna throw a shoe at them, but I’ll let a dog chew on my sneakers, just because I love em.
