How often do you curse or swear?

How often do you curse or use "swear words?" Some of you may wonder (or not) why I sometimes do  bullsh*t like this . Self-censoring. Well, it's because I think cursing actually makes you feel angrier and more aggressive. Like, it riles you up and makes you more stressed and irritable. Curse words originally were meant to be extreme insults and to really offend the person you were talking to (which is why there's really only three kinds of curse words: Religious, Body Parts, and Sex/Bodily Fluids). I personally only curse when I'm angry or furious.  So yeah, I think the more you curse, the angrier you make yourself. Which is why I curse doing this stupid  sh*t . (I hear it in my mind as goofy censor-sound-effects, like a quack, barking, or a doorbell). It keeps me from making myself get angry. I think cursing too much drops all its meaning.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

The only time I think it really matters is with slurs. I grew up hanging out with black people so the N word was like punctuation. (Im white)

I literally had a coworker ask me why I never said it like he thought it thst was a problem, they really didn't see me as any different just because of my skin color. I honestly thought about it and I'm like, why is the latan word for black even seen as a bad word? That's kinda fucked up. So I started saying it at work too and the only difference was that I fit in better with my friends and they felt more comfortable around me.

But, in the last couple years that has totally changed. A lot of black people don't even say it anymore because people freak tf out over the smallest things. I definitely don't say it in public, and actively try to change the phrasing of my thoughts to avoid even thinking it. (mostly, because the one time I said it by accident to mean bro, dude totally didn't take it that way and he absolutely flipped tf out)

I try to say brother instead, or dude, or something that nobody finds offensive.

I don't really think that some words are bad. I honestly don't give a sh*t how other people talk. It's about what they mean and believe and how they treat others that counts. My third grade teacher said we could call him whatever we wanted so long as we said it with respect.

But, I really don't like to hurt people. I absolutely do not want to have people thinking they are being looked down on because of their race. So I have changed my language.

That said, when my first boss introduced me to the other employees as the new gringo, they laughed, I laughed, he laughed, and we all got along great.

I think it's a two sided coin. We should all try to choose our words carefully, but if you flip out on someone because you don't like their dialect you are probably the one with the prejudice.

So far as other curse words, meh, it probably depends on where you grew up, but I got good at not using them when I was stuck serving tables at fancy restaurants.

Nobody wants to pay $200 for a meal and have the server be like "hows it going mothfucker, today we have three specials but the first one is absolutely fucking bomb. By the way our appetizers are the shit"

I wouldn't mind. I'd tip that guy extra... But I guess that's why my favorite restaurant is wood grill.

It really comes down to context.

Well... All of the time when there aren't any other primates around getting offended. But if there are, then I don't.

And if there are other primates around that don't mind cursing, then I'll curse. But I don't like to curse abusively. And if it seems like I have, then I'll be joking and the other primates involved would always get the joke.

I curse most of the time, it's just part of my vobaculary (though I do censor myself around kids and family, think fudge, crab apples, shoot etc) and I do refer to my friends as bitch, shit head, fucking idiots, and very lovingly say fuck you or go fuck yourself.
When I actually want to insult someone I get creative, things like knobhead, douchenozzle, or jizztissue are a few favourites.
It all comes down to tone though, so because of that I don't think cursing makes me angrier, in either context, it's just an easier way of getting the right emotion out without searching for the right words.
Also for the record I'm Australian, if that makes any difference.

Entirely too much. It's something I've tried to work on over the last few years. I'll try to form out informative, carefully constructed sentences to explain a point of view... and then try to convince myself to just not call them a c#nt, which would have the same effect.

I think I was 18 the first time I cursed and everyone was so shocked their jaws dropped.

Over the past few years I went from that to basically turning every heavy traffic drive into a continuous string of obscenities.

I went to a dinner party at my parents house once, and they had an old friend and her husband over for dinner and for 3 straight hours, this woman used more curse words than actual English every time she spoke. I was genuinely horrified and shocked because her husband was so upper crusty Queen's English and very proper and she swore worse than a sailor. I don't know, I find it embarrassing to be around people who don't know how to self censor or who don't care that it's your boss or your parents in the room---they will use every opportunity to be grotesque with their swearing. I worked for a long time with kids, so I'm very good at not swearing or doing the Ned Flanders, darn-diddly-darn type of thing but stub my toe, and I'm letting one rip. Time and place.

Pretty often, but mainly to myself. For example, I will be looking at my paycheck and see the money I received and will say something “fuck yeah” or “goddamn” to myself. If around people, I would say it is a lot less often. The people I’m around usually, if I’m out in public outside my home, are usually infantry soldiers, so cursing or swearing in front of them isn’t as big of a deal as if I was around a different crowd.

The angry cursing happens whenever I play a videogame that kicks my butt or when I'm on the road and crazy drivers force you to slam on the brakes

It depends upon the environment I'm in, if I'm in an office they rarely or not at all but what ever word I use in place of wearing will be delivered with feeling, if I'm on an engineering shopfloor I'll match my use of swearing to what is being used but not always the same words or phrases.
