"Fear is the mind-killer." Do you agree or disagree with this quote (see pic for the full quote)?

I have had to take human life on four occasions in my career life.
One particularly hand-to-hand wrestling 'up close and personal' for 'keep-sies'... over a tire iron. May you NEVER have to look in someone's eyes as they literally die and the 'light' of consciousness leaves and you are intimately aware YOU caused it with that tire iron driven through his chest.
"Was I frightened? HELL yes..." But, unless you can move through and PAST that psychological paralysis... if only ONE of us is going home from this interaction, I'm voting FOR ME!!! And the adrenaline kicks in. Mothers literally lift multi-ton cars off children. (and their bodies 'pay' for it later) I've ALWAYS had the good fortune to survive an Aggressor's 'choice' to INITIATE physical hostilities... THEY were always given the CHOICE to rethink and dis-engage. "I don't START fights, but I WILL if necessary and unavoidable, FINISH them" (or die in the attempt)
Its an old Viking adage: "Your rank in 'Hel' is determined by the number of those fallen whose Souls precede you" ~ ;)
No of course not. It's just something to sound cool. Of course realistically, Fear is very useful like as into act as a signal of danger, threat, or motivational conflict, and to trigger appropriate adaptive responses.
Then fear also adrenaline releases and other chemicals as well, such as dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin and serotonin. There's a good reason for that: serotonin, in particular, helps your brain to work more efficiently.
It basically protects us and makes us think better. So if this guy don't want to think better or protect himself then go for it lol
you know im starting o think you're one of those contrarians types just to be contrarian lol
but ok sure.
here ill ask this, whats a popular opinion most people have that you also agree with?
like for instance most people agree season 8 of game of thrones was atrocious. but there might be some extremely small minority who think its good actually just because.
Bahahha i love game of thrones season 8. And the way they hinted at like in the books that Daenerys would become a dragon and when Targaryen die they become dragons.
Hmm i dunno what's a popular opinions people have but in most cases i disagree with them because Popular answers are often made up by people who don't over analyse. Then popular opinions allow justin biber and other things get popular.
So I don't know if popular opinions are really a smart judging pole tbh. It don't make me contrarian though because i don't disagree with everything just for the sake of it.
I think best example of me not been one would probably be music if i like the song i like the song don't really matter on artist. For example i like Black space by Taylor swift but then won't like one of her other songs. I am not liking the song just to be a contrary to someone i just like the song.
yup as i suspected. you are a contrarian lol. to the core.
ok ill call you an 80-90% contrarian then. with some exceptions
I depends. If you're in a situation that puts your life or other people's lives at stake then fear can be a mind killer because it makes it harder for you to take action. But sometimes fear can be a good thing and can even be a motivator. For example if you fear taking a certain quiz or exam then your fear can motivate you to study so that you do well
I agree. In some situations people let their fear block them and they lose good opportunities or they don't do what they want to.
But sometimes it's good to be afraid of something or someone. It prevents you from dangerous circumstances.

Fear certainly stops you from solving quadratic equasions. Parents trying to pressure chilren into better performance tend to be disappointed.
On the other hand, when sqeezed between two lines of enemies, fear allows me be to be in three places at once and plan three moves ahead. Things get simplified.
It's a bit like becoming a child that can focus on just one thing; "want candy!". An adult has no chance against such a child, because he is trying to think about 7 other important things. Fear kills stray thoughts and gives you candy.
No hesitation is.
Fear is a primal response - Fight or flee.
Fear is a huge dump of shit that energises us.
Hesitation is where it’s lost.
you don’t have to face your fear, you can fucking run, get out of the way.
Fear is a huge motivator, without fear we don’t evolve.
Fear is the great mind enhancer.
Yes. Look at how the diehard Republicans act.
Their party run their campaigns on fear tactics and a lot of the voters are so afraid they began acting completely crazy and violent and full of rage.
Fear has killed their minds.
No that's the type of crap spoken by people just before they die an excruciating death. Fear keeps you alive, danger is defeated by gaining the relevant skills not by facing fear.
Fear paralyzes you if you let it. I come from a community that is raised on fear. So breaking the habit for them is almost impossible. I broke the habit when i moved to Sweden
Fear puts us into our limbic system and fear based memories tend to overpower our higher cognitive reasoning/memories through the hippocampus so this is literally true.
No, it can fester in the mind sure. it is definitely an obstacle we need to overcome
Agree with the quote, this is the basis of military/police/para medic training where you are faced with a stressful situation by dampening the fear and allowing you to deal with the situation.
not quite... it's more about how you handle yourself through the fears
No, panic is. Fear on the other hand is a great motivator for thought when it comes to avoiding danger or negative developments.
“Fear is excitement without breath. Just breathe.”
I definitely think it can be.
I agree its often the case
I agree.
Fear is an animal.
