Are personalized/vanity license plates common where you live? What’s the most interesting one you’ve seen before?

From 2019, Virginia was the state with the most personalized plates.  I’ve only seen them on more expensive cars. They have been significantly more noticeable during rush hour traffic.  Here are some rejected vanity plates by state: These silly names wracked up huge fines because they couldn’t register during citation processing: NULL NOPLATE NO TAGS XXXXXXX NV (which can also mean “Not Visible”

I once saw "N BYOND", which I thought was clever, since it was on an Infiniti. Also "YLE CYTE", "TNT DDS" (will your insurance cover THAT treatment?), and SPQR. My favorite, though, came from a holiday weekend where I was driving up in Wisconsin.

My usual practice while driving is to stay in the right lane, get up to the speed limit, and slap on cruise control. That way, I can focus my attention on what's going on around me, rather than constantly looking down at the dashboard to make sure I'm not speeding. Anyway, on this particular day, the road was EMPTY, except for me. Not another car in sight, in either direction. Unusual in itself, but then a car pulled up behind me, and started following closely. TOO closely. I didn't understand why, since there was no reason not to pass me if they felt I was going too slow. "Unless..." I thought, and began my usual speech in that type of situation, which is basically to ask the axe-wielding murderer hiding in the backseat to hold off on killing me until I pulled over somewhere, so as not to kill OTHER people when my car went out of control after they decapitated me (no reason to bring innocent bystanders into this). But I wasn't going to be getting off the road for quite a while, so I trailed off and started stealing partial glances into the back, and seeing no murderers there, figured that wasn't the problem.

But STILL the other car kept following close. I could see the trunk was down, and my fuel door was closed, and neither sound nor feel suggested anything wrong with my tires. What was going on? So I slowed down. Just a little, and slowly enough that it wouldn't cause an accident. That finally did it- the other driver, who I (sadly, for reasons you'll soon see) never saw, lost patience and changed lanes, then zoomed off ahead of me. It was only as they were passing that I saw the license plate: YHVH. The Tetragrammaton. The Hebrew version of "Yahweh".

Even GOD thinks I drive too slowly.

We are pretty boring here in Sweden when it comes to this. Plus if i want to habe a funny license plate! That will cost me a lot. Better stay boring and safe money instead

Pretty common here in the UK but not in the explicit way

My brothers friends mother has her name (Kate) because her surname is short so K8 *year of issue and surname*

A neighbour had one from his kids that contained his initials, the big birthday he'd celebrated and DAD

In my restaurant days the regulars had 2 Royce's with near identical plates featuring the family nickname and the numbers 1 and 2 respectively (I know those plates cost about £30,000 for the pair on some £500,000 of British luxury)

Most mad one I saw were in London what I had to go to Kensington and Chelsea, I saw a few that day

F812 SF on a Ferrari 812 Superfast (£250,000 before the plate) and outside the same house 2 PJ and 4PJ on quite standard German saloons, the plates likely cost as much as the cars

I saw one that the motor vehicle department missed and let through. It was

S O M P H... Which is "Sit on My Face" only using a "PH" for the acronym, instead of an "F"... I saw it on the highway and I was laughing.

Yeah I remember reading about of the ones that caused problems with citations, I see them quite often here in New York, usually with the company name as a vanity plate or the type of car they like on Teslas, NOGAS ELECTRIC

UK here. They exist but they're pretty lame and insanely expensive. I'm not making a moral judgement, they are literally lame. They might mean something to the owner but they're almost never clever or amusing.

Yes quite common, but most are pretty boring (like their last names or something like that). But I have seen a couple funny ones. None come to mind at the moment.
