When people younger than me say something makes them feel old.
lmfao… actually, if your age was hidden I would’ve guessed you’d be in your late 20s
@blackcupcake lol But here you see inside my head. Everyone else I know irl gets the filtered sophisticated me. Well… a bit more. 🙃
@AmandaYVR Thank you my friend. 😁😎
hahaha interesting… thanks for sharing!😆
@AmandaYVR The flip side. 😎
Knowing that I'm older than youtube, Facebook and MySpace.
hahaha you’re still young tho!
hahaha TikTok makes me feel old…
because I don’t get the fun in it… hahaha

Looking at my driver's license makes me feel old.
Everything makes me feel old now, lmao. Playing hockey against teenagers does the trick for sure😂 Music and movies from back in the day, like realizing that they’re officially from back in the day now, that gets me. Certainly the stuff from my youth, but now even things from my 30s. Like I had a Wiz Khalifa song come on randomly, and I was like “holy shit…I just realized Wiz Khalifa is MIA, I haven’t seen that dude in years! Now that you mention it, where’s Waka Flaka Flame? Lîl Wayne? Anyone seen Skrillex around? Anyone? Seriously, even fuckin’ Katy Perry, where the hell is she at? Lmao, just that realization that there’s now been a second changing-of-the-guard since MY generation was relieved of our “young & cool” duties. 2010-20 flew by me like a flash, so I just don’t have that same time perception of “that shit was YEARS ago, bro.” I was just trying to get adjusted to the 10s so as not to be all-the-way old, lmao, and just as I got the hang of it, they switched it up again. And of course, every time you go to a convenience store, there’s the “you must be born before…” calendar for 18+ or 21+ age-restricted products, and that’ll stun me too. I can’t believe people born in the 21st century can actually be adults now, that is WILD.
lmfao… that’s hilarious, I really enjoyed reading this hahaha, thank you!
When my piano sir says, "(my name) is my oldest, most obedient and loyal student and she is your senior. I would suggest you to follow her way." actually I'm the youngest in my whole batch or among all students of class 8 but yeah I'm the oldest student in piano class even though younger according to age. (been my piano sir's student for 4 years. Most students loose patience and change their Musical Instrument option within 2 years as piano can be frustrating.) And when my cousin who is 7 months younger than me says, "You are my idol. I want to become like you." he adores me the most among all the siblings so yeah.
that’s adorable! hahaha
lately... when my niece is blasting a new song she found and liked, and I happen to like it as well lmao
and when we both ask each other "how do you even know about that song" then I have to explain to her that those songs are actually from the 90's... way before she was even born...
a couple of times I even dust off some cassettes to prove my point and she starts cracking up like "what the hell is all that"
lmfao… next time ask her if she knows how to use old button phones hahaha
When most of the people you grew up with die or have been dead for awhile leaving you with more friends that are deceased than friends that are living
I’m sorry for your loss…💜
Every time that list in my head grows of examples of things that were better before. (And that's not just me believing they were. Seriously, some things were better.)
Makes me feel curmudgeonly. But also that I've seen shit, know shit.
can I ask for an example of something that was better before
That's a valid q. Not so easy for me to come up with a list though. I'll try.
I have this pretty frequent feeling that because we live surrounded by and immersed in so much technology now, that the effects of all our activities are widely impactful. It's routing us into various directions. We all have free will, free choice, right, but beyond that, we are daily being influenced to go here, go there, stay longer, etc. And not only do companies, and governments, have more information about us, but we also have more information about each other, and how the world is functioning in other places. (Or not functioning, as it were.)
A simple example is before we had cell phones, and even before that caller I. D., we were not always available to contact. There was a lot of mystery to where we were, when we would be back, see each other, etc. When the phone rang, you didn't know who it was. So unless you were really deep in the middle of something, mostly you answered it. It was the unknown, and people are curious creatures.
Now, however, we know exactly who it is, and people screen calls.
Take that a step further - many don't even want to answer a call. Texting seems easy, convenient, and one can strategize their responses far more.
This leads to people feeling slighted. And they are, honestly. Everyone is looking for connection, yet also picking up behaviour, and hints, about their pecking order - where they are prioritized compared to others, in that person's life.
Tracking is big business. Everything we click on, pause on, and of course purchase, or re-watch several times, is being recorded, known, and we are a product which is being auctioned off by the millisecond, by A. I. (People write the code to train the A. I., so it's really people who are to blame.)
We become more of what we are. If you like a genre of music, it comes up again and again in youtube. If you watching videos about some problem, or theory, or interest... you will be come further entrenched in that idea. Even 'random' is not actually random. It's a computer-generated guess of what will keep you on the site or app.
There's also a large dosing of fear-mongering. Because fear is a more powerful motivator than pleasure or simple contentment. Loneliness, unhappiness, looking for affirmation from others, seems to be even more omnipresent now because of this bizarre disconnect that has resulted from the potential of so much connection. There's a line from a rom-com movie. "Now we can get rejected nine different ways." (Because there are so many platforms and tools with which people can be contacted.)
People summarize this as "technology." Yes, it is. But I think more specifically it's the known, the lack of mystery, and the feelings of often chronic rejection as part of a community (whether that be geographical or virtual), yet being able to look (sort of 'look, but don't touch')... coupled with the narrowing of our supposed interests and preferences,
So we are, in so many ways, life is not actually as random as it used to be. It's curated, either by us or some company.
What we consume, what is available to all, and suggested to each individual, seems to be getting narrower. There is so much content now (which is great - I love that), but it means peoples' eyes are diversified all over. People use to listen to the same radio stations, the same TV programs, know people in their community. That was boring, honestly. It felt very limiting. I know I wanted more, a hell of a lot more. And for me, the internet has opened up the world. I've met so many people (as a digital friend) I would never have met irl. But people are tribal. And people are not unified anymore. I'm surprised how oppositional society has become, in some ways.
But maybe I'm making too much of all that.
A simple answer would be:
I miss natural materials like cotton and leather. We live in a world now of far too much polyester and plastic. Things aren't real. We've apparently used up the resources. Or the economics don't make sense when crafty humans have figured out how to mass-produce cheaper, throwaway, products. American was built on capitalism and consumer spending.
I miss movies not being formulaic and continuing a similar theme over and over, because it's what people seem to be consuming, or living. Art was more individualistic and we watched stories thought up by a writer and his own head, and that could be anything.
I miss less processed food.
I miss lower cost of living. Housing, education, food, and everything you put inside your home costs a ton more now. The middle class has been almost squeezed out of existence. They got shafted with the bulk of the taxes they could barely afford, while the ultra-wealthy enact more loopholes to harbour their wealth.
But don't get me wrong. I prefer the conveniences and communication possibilities and entertainment options of today. Those are way better. I don't want to go back. I just wish there was more connectedness and unity, and naturalness and authenticity, instead of everything being something to lure our eyes and addict our brains. It's no longer a consumer economy. It's an attention economy.
Sorry, that was a bit of a ramble. I was just meandering my way through this topic. It's not really fully flushed out.
I really really enjoyed reading this, and it’s very much understandable. I definitely see where you’re coming from so thank you for sharing!
thank YOU!😊
Talking to people 8-10 year younger. They are adults but i remember shit from within their lifetime that they do not. I think back to when i was in college 10 years ago (doesn't feel that long ago) and they were children. Asking kids now how to operate a nokia 310 or and old school phone with buttons.
lmfao…
The fact that I'm still watching the television series I watched as a kid makes me feel very old. I was 4 or 5 years old when the new episodes of this series were broadcast, now I am 22 years old and therefore I feel old.
hahaha interesting…
@blackcupcake Do you?

do I feel old? YES! hahaha
When I cannot find a job because people think I am too old.
people do that fr?
I get the impression that you’re fit for your age, so I don’t get why they’d judge based on age alone, that sounds dumb
that makes absolutely no sense
Reminiscing with a friend about a high school memory. Then recalling that it's been over a decade, lol.
Also hearing about my bestie's little brother who is IN COLLEGE now.
Pheewwww.
lmfao definitely relatable! even tho high school was only 2 years ago for me hahaha, it makes me feel old when I see high school kids now
Coming on here and seeing people young enough to be my grandson or grand-daughter even though I am shy of turning age 54 I can still feel that way

Knowing that early 2000s kids are basically all grown up & I still haven't processed being 23 even tho my bday was 3 months ago lol
lmfao… I was born 2001 and I feel OLD, I turned 21 a few weeks back🥲
belated happy birthday by the way!🥳
I don't feel old. I can't do some of the physical things as well as I could when I was in my 20s, but that's okay.
that’s okay, and also great that you don’t feel old!
When I refer to something that happened 20 years ago like it was yesterday. Because 20 years. Ago seems like yesterday. It doesn't seem all that long ago.
kinda relatable, but not all the way to 20 years cause I don’t remember that far back lol
What makes me feel old. I will be celebrating my 45th birthday this summer.
45 is not that old!
I had been at my previous employer for several years. When the employees started getting hired that were born after I started working there, it stung.
