Just found out that a rat is inside my sofa. Ugh. Please help. What can I do to get rid of it?

Take a small cardboard box with a lid (or cut a lid into it). Cut a couple of holes, one on either side at one end of the box. Put a "glue trap" on the opposite side of the box from the holes. Put a dab of peanut butter on the inside wall of the box, opposite end of the holes, just above the glue trap. Close the lid, place with the holes against a wall by the sofa. Pray.
We have caught dozens of mice with this simple trap. Rodents don't view the (organic wood/paper) in the box as a danger: they avoid our plastic traps like the plague. So they sniff around and go into the box. Some are able to pull them selves out, but most don't.

humanely trap it and then let it outside. He is probably scared because he is trapped. He most likely went behind the couch and then tried to get out by going through the couch. Catch him and let him outside and then simply clean the inside of your couch with something like Resolve/Fabric Cleaner.

In a spray bottle the red apple cider vinegar some blue Dawn dish soap and some cayenne pepper spread underneath your couch underneath your bathroom sink and your kitchen sink do this everyday for a week and he will be gone if you have dog food do not give it to your dog until he's ready to eat and only give him as much so there's not anything left over it's going to smell like vinegar every day for a week but it's well worth it and it works

Set a trap and kill the SOB. get a little grain or cereal put it in a small container with a 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda. When he eats that it will kill him the baking soda builds air up in its body cause they can’t pass gas or burp they just die.

If you have not seen any evidence of rats around your home before this and the sofa is brand new the rat probably came in with the sofa, register a complaint with where you bought the sofa and ask them to solve the problem, either an exterminator at their cost or replacement sofa, If it is tiny it may be just one of a litter safer to insist on the replacement and buy some traps/bait boxes for around your home.
