How can I get rid of mice in my home?

During the summer time a mouse entered my apartment because I left my screen door open and my new neighbors constantly leave bags of trash on there balcony. for the last few months I have been trying to get rid of this mouse exterminators have been coming to my house every other week, I put poison Down and I have traps lined up by my room bathroom kitchen and my closets but this mouse has been avoiding every trap it even runs on the non-sticky part of the sticky pads I put down. At my old place I had 2 mice and I caught them in less than 4 days. How can I get rid of this mouse in my apartment? I’m thinking about getting a cat but I can't really sleep without the sticky pads lined up in front of my bedroom door I’m terrified of mice and I’m scared it might crawl on me if I get rid of the sticky pads

I have a bunch of old cardboard boxes- about 7" square and 1.5" high, cut doors at one end, and put the sticky "pad-of-doom" at the other end. Works like a charm. Glad I had dozens of these boxes. my daughter needs more, too. The mice can't "read" these boxes as a trap as much as they can they store-bought plastic ones. Be sure to place the entries against the walls of areas that are well-traveled by the offenders.

Black cat gel traps. Seal cracks. Those traps actually have big black cat in cover. I caught with them around oven and dryer areas. They work very well. Don’t touch them by mistake 🙀

Umm, the best way would just be traps, but, if you don't want traps, get a cat

Poison bait works well, but if you have a pet, than you need to be careful where you place the poison. Also, peanut butter works great on traps.
