What is the meaning of the story the boy who cried wolf?

I learned this one when I was quite young, and unfortunately I think it's stayed with me a little too much ever since. The essence of the story is, don't say that you need help if you don't really need help. Because when you really do need help, people won't believe you. I think I've taken that idea a little too much to heart in that I never want to ask for help.

the moral of the story is you will lose the trust of others. If you constantly lie, no one is ever going to believe you!

that constantly lying will make people around you not believe you when you do tell the truth

that if your well onto being an adult and have read the story but still need it to be explained, something in your educational backround severely failed you.
