What's your phobia? And if you have one, do you have any idea what caused it?

Drowning, abandonment, and public speaking…. Those are the first 3 I could think of.
Drowning: I remember I was at a birthday party for this one girl I was friends with. She was pushing me down, and I was running out of breath. I eventually bit her so she would stop. The other incident, I was 14 I think. I went surfing down in Cali. The waves were strong and I barely knew how to surf lol. I had the cord that strapped to your ankle on, and I caught a great wave. It knocked me off and the surf board went on top of me, hit my head, and like 4 consistent waves kept coming over me. I don’t think I went into the ocean or swimming after that. Another recent incident, my dog fell into the pool and got out but got water in his lungs and hours later he passed away because of it. I just never want to be in water like that. It’s scary.

Abandonment: I was in foster care the first handful of years of my life because my birth mother neglected me, and I dealt with a lot of close connections I had leaving or passing away.


Public speaking/in crowds: I have anxiety… In like 3rd grade we had to do this job corp crap pretending to be a CEO, CFO, employees for different things etc. I looked at what would be the most successful role and I chose the CEO. Without knowing, the CEO had to public speak about the “business” we had. I just froze. I don’t remember what happened but I couldn’t do it.

I used to have arachnophobia. I'm not sure how it started, but since I was very little, I would have recurring nightmares of spiders chasing me. Just seeing a spider would trigger the nightmares for days at a time.

Anyhow, I was at the point of full blown panic attacks (trembling & sweating) at the sight of a picture of a spider and if it was a real spider crying and if the spider moved, screaming and hysterics. The phobia was in control of me and it was almost debilitating at times.

I eventually got over the phobia, although I still have a fear of spiders. The first time I can remember facing that phobia head on was when I was home alone with my first baby and there was a spider. I couldn't let it get away, it had to die. I managed to kill it. I cried a lot, but I focused on my love for my child. It got easier each time.

I still struggle a bit if I'm alone and have to take care of the situation, but I usually find a way. I can't stand the thought of feeling it squish, so it's usually a miserable death for the spider. Sorry spiders!

I have a slight phobia of hurting other people, especially by accident. I think I got it because I had a Birthday party when I was 5 where I played outside on the playground riding the swings and standing on them really high.

Then a little girl ran in front of my swing and I couldn't stop in time and the wooden seat I was standing on hit her on the head and knocked her out. Then I picked her up and dashed into the restaurant panicking and asking for help.

My parents didn't punish me for it since it was an accident and, fortunately, the little girl ended up recovering. But I ended up punishing myself as much as I could. I've had this kind of fear since where something I do might end up getting someone else hurt like that, especially since I'm an adrenaline junkie and thrill-seeker. I'm okay risking my own safety but not the safety of others with my stunts.

It affects some daily things for me like driving. I can drive but I'm a little bit more nervous than most people that something I do might end up getting someone else hurt. So I really want to switch to a motorcycle where the odds of collateral damage are much lower if I make a mistake.

It's one of the few major fears I think I have left. I've mostly overcome the fear of death, injury, danger, social embarrassment, rejection, etc. by confronting them head-on as often as I could. I tend to rationalize it like, "What's the big deal if I get injured or die or socially rejected?" But I haven't been able to figure out a way to overcome the fear of hurting someone else since I can't say it's not a big deal if that happens.

I have a fear of heights, acrophobia. Don't know what caused it. I've learned to deal with it in most situations, including standing back from the edge of a cliff.

Claustrophobia.

Because we were playing hide and seek as children and my boy cousin found me in an empty clothes hamper and sat on the lid and wouldn't let me out

I wouldn't call it a full blown phobia. But my older sister used to babysit me when my parents would go out. And she was mean. If I even talked she'd lock me a room with the lights off till our parents came back. I'm not afraid but let's just say I'm uncomfortable in compete darkness to this day.

I am afraid of heights. I nerv had this problem when I was young. I used to work on roofs and climb trees. I went on a ferris wheel wigh my son and all of a sudden I was scared to death. I don't know why, maybe some inner ear thing.

Seriously. 5'11" is already extremely sh*tty on a man, as it is. (Great for women and 12 year old boys, though.)

phobia of escalators. there was a time when my fam and i was at a mall and i saw a kid falling off the escalator. that kinda started abd developed my fear of that. however, im trying my best to overcome it

I am homophobic, I think it is unnatural and against Gods law. I also don’t want them near children.

If 2% of the population is responsible for 20% to 40% of something as socially and personally troubling as child molestation, something must be desperately wrong with that 2%. Not every homosexual is a child molester. But enough gays do molest children so that the risk of a homosexual molesting a child is 10 to 20 times greater than that of a heterosexual. This is unnatural behavior.

They will also never be able to procreate, which is directly antithetical to biological nature, therefore unnatural in practice.
