Why do some people brag about what happened to them?

I asked a question the other day. An anonymous girl said something like "... happened to me, I don't understand why anyone would want this".
I said something, then I said "you're lucky by the way". After talking for a while, I asked if this could happen to me. "Probably not, but hope you get other dreams to chase," she said. She also put a laughing emoji as if mocking.
I'm going crazy soon. 😑

The part of the brain that does this is the ego. It's a self preservation system that tell you you're special, you're worth it, you are better than other because [fill in the blanks]. It comes up with reasons for us not to feel miserable.
A lot of people don't have much going on in their life, or mainly had bad things happen to them. At that point the ego becomes more active to compensate.
