In terms of my passions in the arts, I realized it so quickly as the internet became a household thing and I attended visual arts courses. I was just a big fish in a small pond and the tiniest fish in the sea.

In terms of my proficiency in computer science, I wasn't. Even though it wasn't my ultimate passion, I chose that profession. I could be a big fish in the entire sea there. I went for the skill that made me a whale in the ocean.

But my passions all render me a constant big fish, at best, in small ponds. I enjoy those the most. I don't feel competitive in those. I stick to the whale side just to earn a living.

  I've got this curse where all my passions lie in the things I'm relatively the worst at: visual arts, music, vert skateboarding, etc. I can't compete with the entire world on any of these. I just love them so much. Meanwhile, I seem most competitive against the entire world with the things I'm least passionate about.

  My ultimate passion is skateboarding on vert ramps. It reminds me of riding swings as a child but with the chains/ropes off and just doing big weightless airs back to back!
  
  But I just don't have the technique or skill or maybe even the type of athletic intelligence to pick up tricks that quickly. I wish I did and then maybe I could align my passion with my career! :-D But it's not so bad in my opinion to relegate that to a hobby, and maybe it's even more enjoyable that way.

  I've got this lifelong complex though. I've built a reputation for myself as a software engineer focused on R&D. A lot of the newest films now use the techniques I innovated in the 2000s in their visual effects. I can watch a new movie and say, "Hey, that's my technique!" I can be big that way even in the entirety of the ocean. But it's not my passion and it never felt like who I am. I got a split personality now between my passions and what I seem to excel at doing.
