Do you think his mom is racist since she said?

“You better not ever bring home a (insert race here) girl.” He laughed it off as he told me what she said but I didn’t find it funny since I am that race and have yet to meet her. She may or may not be racist but he said he wouldn’t be surprised if she is since her father was racist and that she may be taking on his ways. Should i be worried about meeting her? And why would he find it funny? Like what makes him think she's joking?

If she really said that, it sounds like she has at least some racist attitudes.

There are some people who don't hold prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism toward other races or ethnicies, but are very insular when it comes to dating or marrying outside their own race, religion or culture.
So that could be what's going on with the mother, but I'd still call that attitude racist.

I will say that attitudes can change. I have cousins who married black guys and had babies. Their parents, who previously had mildly racist attitudes, were suddenly all about their sons in law and grand children, became anti-racist and very supportive of mixed marriage.
