+1 yThe 2010's began, for me, with losing a friend in one of the most horrific ways possible, and did their best to go downhill from there. Horror and misery struck down many people I cared about, and when 2020 finally approached, it seemed I'd finally have a chance to begin to turn things around; I vowed that THIS decade would be better.
2020 made prayer-makers of many people who weren't religious, or were only mildly so. I already WAS a religious man, but my tone definitely changed; most people would begin with "Lord, have mercy and let this plague pass me by"; I opened with "Lord, don't make me come up there!".
In Ireland, where my family comes from and where we still have some relatives we're in touch with, there's a proverb about the great famine, when a fungal blight struck tde potato crop, the only one the Irish could afford, and three million people died of starvation and disease while the country still shipped thousands of tons of food back to England every single day (another three million fled the country, often in what were literally repurposed slave ships that killed many more; Ireland's population still hasn't recovered, 175 years later): God sent the blight, but England sent the hunger. Human failings are human, not divine, and blame should be placed where it's deserved.
I'm not sure how, but THIS time around, I'll see things improve, if I have to rebuild the world myself.11 Reply- +1 y
I LOVE your strength of spirit! "Lord, don't make me come up there!"🤣 I have felt like that too! We share a bit of Irish heritage. And I agree that I will see things improve even if I have to do it myself. It's nice to know that someone else shares my sentiment. Slán!

u +1 yIn the past decade, I have become more successful and more respected in my profession. I have served as president of my congregation for four years. I have served as president of my fraternity's alumni association for five years. I have been the alumnus advisor to my fraternty's chapter at a local university for eight years, I have mentored many of those young men while they were in college, and I have helped a few of them to make it to their graduation. I have met many other fine people and have had several relationships which were satisfying in many ways though they ultimately ended. The ups have definitely outweighed the downs and I feel quite fortunate for the past ten years.

I'm glad to hear of your success. It's at least good to know that the past decade has been good to some people! Thank you for sharing.
+1 yThis past decade gifted me one of my most prized treasures... The birth of my Son. This past decade has also brought me the birth of my niece and nephew. I also earned my CDL around this time. I've had incredible memories watching my children grow. I have adopted a few wonderful animals that I love beyond words. I've married, have a house fully paid for and I lost over a hundred pounds. I also got to spend five amazing years with my grandfather living in my home before he passed. He taught me to sew and I've made several amazing items. I have had many different jobs all bringing me joy with the challenges. I have met a lot of new people and made friends. I also came across gag where I made a best friend, friends and close acquaintances.
Has this past decade brought me sorrows? yes it has. I've seen deaths quite a few I've had financial hardships and an injury and my once happy marriage has taken some hard hits however I'm not going to allow these hard times ruin my entire decade. there's too much I have going for me to allow it to spoil or taint the good.10 Reply

+1 yLets see, 2012-2022…. Hmmm. I was in my prime from 2007-2017 for sure. Super happy, super fit… 2012-2017 were great years. 2018-2022 were toxic in both friendships, relationships, and jobs. Those have been the hardest 4 years of my life honestly. I could feel a depressive state wanting to hit for about a month each year but i always fought it off cause im just happy af and try to stay that way. So i would vent about shit before i could truly be optimistic and i cutoff almost everyone between 2019-2022. Im also trying to get my old body back because i wanna stay in my prime until im at least 35 or 40 lol.

+1 yThis decade for me has been all over the place, it started off good enough, got terrible and then it became amazing and I felt like I found out who I am. But the last 3 years undid a lot of that and has been challenging me in ways that I really didn't think I would have to go through again. But I figured it all out once, I'll do it better this time for sure.

12.2K opinions shared on Other topic. It had lots of us and downs. My kids graduated from college was good. I bought a vacation home. I changed careers and my investments did very good. Everything turned to shit when covid happened. I lost my job and needed major surgery. The whole country seems to be going to shit during the last 18 months.

I feel your pain. I had PTSD and went through job transition, too. The whole world seems to have turned to sh! t! I control my exposure to the news now and try to disconnect everyday to achieve life balance again.

Don't give in!👍
329 opinions shared on Other topic. My worst decade for sure. After losing my best job, it was mental hell for me and I still haven't recovered. I moved back home, I never moved again. I have a better job now than the millions of freelance jobs I had to take at low pay, but its not ideal. I still haven't had a partner or met anyone who wants to go there, understandably.
12 Reply- +1 y
Without a doubt, today is harder to meet a partner or someone than perhaps in the past 100 years. It seems the more technologically advanced our society becomes, the more isolated we are in our own silos.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yYes the past decade has been very good to me. The past decade is where I've made my biggest gains financially. I've more than quadrupled my net worth in the past decade. Ironically I've also had my most success romantically in the past decade as well... kind of makes me wonder if the two are connected.🤣
11 Reply- +1 y
You took the words out my mouth. Unfortunately, I believe there IS a connection to wealth and romance. Good for you, friend!
+1 yLife's Good because I am a Virgin saving myself for marriage, something women know very little about. :)

Good for you! What have been your hilights in the past 10 years?
- +1 y
I did not waste time with women's bullshit for the last 10 years, I am proud of myself for having a successful career and healthy life without any baggage.
I think in terms of what I can do for my country not what women can do for me. - +1 y
I see. Thank you.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yMy father got brain cancer, so it’s been hell. I’m unhappy 90% of the time even with my personal life. Everything sucks, but I’m aware there’s much worse cases out there still.
11 Reply- +1 y
I'm so sorry to hear that. One of my favorite cousins died of brain cancer. I agree, it's important to be strong and realize there are those much worse off, like in Ukraine! Hang in there!
+1 y2010 to 2020 was a virtual shit show from people I dated - to my job with the department - seeing natural destruction from weather - to the bad side of people.

And then there was the pandemic. But in your personal life has your life gotten better, stayed the same or gotten worse?

Care to share some of your story?
- +1 y
Sure. 2013 was probably the worst. My grandmother died, I had some serious financial and personal troubles, and had trouble finding a new job.
The best was probably 2016. I moved out of my parents' house and met my wife. - +1 y
Congratulations! Life is a rollercoaster!

I had highlights almost all the time, not easy to mention all of them. Like 2010-2020. Were the best for me. In 2021 I lost my lovely grandpa and broke up with my boyfriend the same month.
I and my boyfriend reconciled but we are still stuck in different countries and seems like China won’t make it easier for me to go back anytime soon. - +1 y
I'm sorry to that you are separated from your SO in China

Yes, I feel the same way, but the good news I guess is that it can only get better. Try to stay optimistic.

only seems to get worse for me. I don't even feel like I belong here.

It takes conscious effort to stay focused on the here in this moment in time. It will help you achieve balance. Try it.

There's only pain and anger.

Try reaching out for assistance from a counselor. It changed my life.
- +1 y
won't work. know myself too well. I know what I want, what I need, what'll bring me the life I crave... can't get it here... not in this reality.
- +1 y
Then what is your plan?
- +1 y
soldier on. think about my dream and pray for it. not much choice. therapy only helps you cope; it won't magically provide me with what I need. great for those who need that... a pointless waste for me.
- +1 y
I see. Good luck!

I thought about saying it but then I realized that I don’t want people’s sympathy

Respectfully I’m really not about to say why not. I didn’t talk about it last year at my job when my coworkers were going around sharing emotional stories like it’s story time. So yeah respectfully
