Psychologists are mental health professionals who have you sit or lay down on the couch. They're like therapists or mental health counselors, but with more training and education.

Psychiatrists are basically just pharmacists for mental health.

As for the difference between psychologists and therapists?

Usually, therapists are people who don't have the masters degrees or Ph. D's to call themselves actual psychologists. Which is why they don't earn as much money and aren't as helpful.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor able to prescribe medication and medical procedures. A psychologist is not a medical doctor and treat the human mind with talking and mental therapies.

A psychiatrist is technically a doctor and to qualify is a longer process, as a result as they can also prescribe medication for mental health conditions etc.

Psychologist is who you get referred to by the psychiatrist afterwards usually for longer treatment and cognitive therapies and such

Psychologist looks more in your behavior.  Psychiatrist looks more in your medical mental health. He/she can prescribe you medicines.

But they, typically, can't diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions, because they don't have the qualifications.

A psychiatrist has studied medicine is allowed to give you medicine to cure something. Psychiatrists diagnose a disease that leads to a bad behavior.
A psychologist on the other hand looks at the behavior and tries to find methods to change that mostly but not always by finding out the root behavior that led to this behavior in a conversation with a client.

A psychologist deals with predicting human behaviour; e. g. a criminal or foresic psychologist helps detectives find serial killers etc by trying to understand their mind and motivations etc. You could also have psychologists working in advertising to help exploit peoples emotional states etc in order to sell products.

A psychiatrist mostly just prescribes drugs. Psychiatrists are more for people with really serious mental health issues that can only be helped with drugs.

If you want to actually talk to someone about stuff then go to a good psychologist. This should be the first step for most people. Let them refer you to a psychiatrist if they think you need it.

If you go to the psychiatrist first, they will probably just drug you up.

Easy! — Psychologists have a PhD in Psychology (or related field) — Psychiatrists, however are also Psychologists, but in addition, they are a medical doctors (MD) … and can prescribe medicine, among other things.
