I’m afraid to kill insects which I think is an essential life skill so I hope I never have to live alone.

I love it. So many problems I just don't have anymore.

You can always go out and meet people, invite friends over etc... but you can't always have the house to yourself unless you live alone.

I have a few tips tho. Buy a $200 security camera system. It's easy to know when you are home and when you aren't. Especially as a lady people might see you as an easy target. Cameras are powerful because most wrongdoers will check to see if you have a camera or not. Sure, it's great to have a video, but the camera PREVENTS more crimes than it catches. I never caught the thief on mine, because nothing has been stolen since the day I put it up.

Consider a pet. But that's a personal one. I have a cat because she keeps me company and still gives me my own space when I need it.

Learn to do things yourself or make sure you have a good landlord/handyman. Try to keep some extra savings on hand. Being on your own is great until something goes wrong and no one is there to help you fix it.

I try not to kill the bugs. I let the spiders stay and they do it for me. But if that doesn't work for you there are lots of other options. Pesticides, fly paper, a cat... even just keeping up with window screens and weather stripping helps a lot.

Depending on where you live, you might want to consider a backup vehicle. I live a ways out of town so a cab is like $100.

If you can get along with the neighbors it's worth doing. But if you can't just try to disengage.

And hey, remember to enjoy the benefits. I leave my socks on the floor and dishes on the table until I feel like dealing with them. Might not be the same things for you, but remember that it's your place, you don't have to do anything for someone else's sake.

I would be if I was and could afford a place here, I would to my own place, I’m totally self sufficient, just not much of a cook

My dad's girlfriend wanted to move in with het two kids after a few years. He wasn't for it. I know my dad so I kinda figured that was the end of that.

They are still doing well some years after that. Living like an hour apart. They go on vacations and spend the night at each other's places sometimes but he seems happy to have his own house just the way he likes it.
