How long can your bank account stay in the negative?

Depends on the bank, really.

I've worked for two banks, and one would let you stay in the negative for 90 consecutive days, and the other would only let you go 30 consecutive days.

Eventually, though, they will close the account, and send you to collections, if you owe enough.

I know someone that went into the negatives like 3 or 4 times and took down the bank account when he did, he can only use one bank now, I think you will always owe it until you pay it and I'm sure the bank will eventually claim what they own so I don't recommend to do this, pay it off when you can, when you put money in the account it will count it to what you owe and then eventually it will reach back to 0

My Mother-in-law racked up $900 in overdraft fees and was in the negative. The bank came after her within 30 days. If it's a small amount just wait until next payday.

Forever I have a permanent overdraft facility, which luckily I have never used.
