How to deal with an abusive landlord?

This guy has slashed our car tires. Not done any maintenance on the house. There are rats and cockroaches running around in the house. He has taken more money from my family with rent. He verbally harasses my family. He barges into the house at times without permission. He even was given $60,000 from the state and still had the audacity to come to my family and say that we need to pay rent. He tried using a fake notice to make us leave instead of going through court. He says his lawyer is waiting for a response from our lawyer when his lawyer is not even a real lawyer to begin with. He’s avoiding court as you can already tell. What do I do?

Contact your local circuit court in the county or city to which you reside. Stop paying the landlord rent each month based on the issues you cited. You go to the court and you pay rent to the circuit court. They will hold the money until your landlord fixes said issues.

I think you should sue him. He was trespassing, destroyed your property, and was harassing you. You also need to look into your lease agreement to see if he’s breached any terms within the contract (regarding maintenance, etc).

You might be legally in the right; but to stay 'connected' to assholes isn't worth while.

See if there is a tenant advocate at your local city hall. This guy is running some kind of welfare scam and wants you out.

Go to your state or county housing authority and building department. They will inspect the house and force him to make repairs. He's a real slumlord

Write down everything that has happened and try to give dates and time lines. Take pics too. Then move out, sue him and report him as a slum lord.
