Why do people take selfies with their phones in a mirror. What's the motive?

The motive is to use the (typically much better) rear camera on the phone, and to use the bathroom lights which tend to be the brightest and best positioned built-in lights in the house for portrait taking.

Front cameras have gotten much better in the last few years, but they are still wide angle lenses that cause lot of barrel distortion that isn't ideal.

It's always better to have someone else take your pictures, but that's just not always practical.

Because there was no front facing cameras on cameras, and then there were no front facing cameras on older cell phones. So when girls like this wanted to take a picture of themselves, they had to do it with a mirror or find somebody to take the picture

It allows us to block our faces if we don't want that shown a bit easier plus you can do a full body pic, rather than just a upper body.

In my guest bathroom there was a mirror that added 40 pounds to your midsection. I added two more clips to the middle to try to keep it more straight. Now it takes off 10 pounds.

The mirror was there when we bought the house, and the wall behind it has old wallpaper on it and a hole in it, otherwise it would be long gone. It's directly behind the toilet so it's an interesting view if you stand there to pee lol.

The people I know who take a lot of mirror selfies (usually girls) do it for the sole purpose of flexing their iPhones in the mirror. And because the lighting of the bathroom is usually prettier than their bedroom's

It's just easy to do. The alternative is to out the phone on a tripod and take a delayed picture, which is harder.
