Why do people seem to be obsessed with taking selfies?

call me old fashioned but like I've never really gotten what the hype is about when it comes to the constant need of taking selfies or even just making a bunch of posts on social media to let everyone know what you're doing (I'm not claiming that every person does this). like why do people see it as important to put their whole lives on the internet for random people to know about it? is it just a way of people wanting to glorify themselves or feel better about themselves or something? I mean yes I am on a social media thing this very moment (G@G, its all I care to have) and I don't care about people seeing what I look like or delving into every part of my life besides just the music I work with..

But sometimes, people believe that others want to know what they are doing every second of every day.

Even those cam girls, I don't think about after a certain time or even much (I don't pay for porn). Yeah it's terrible, but then again, do they even care about who's on the other end watching them really? As long as they are throwing dollars their way, they don't associate much to whoever is watching them. Usually these girls have SO anyhow and just say they don't to keep the fan base going.

Anyhow, being the male pig I am, I still find them seriously sexy and love watching women get off and masturbate so...

But when people take selfies like they are eating something or standing by a burning building with people yelling for help and they are sitting there, "guess where I am", taking a photo, that's a disconnect from reality that I don't understand.

My picture of me is there because someone suggested I do it. I'm not a selfie kind of guy. I hate them too. Hate them so much. I find it a little arrogant to think you look so good that you want others to know that you feel like you look so good that you have to show them how good you look. When I was in a relationship, I never liked our commented on her selfles and I never wanted to take a picture with her (I still can't figure out why I'm single (sarcasm)).
Maybe I'm a bit too old fashioned, but I don't care for people seeing my face, and I'd change mine back to the old man it used to be if a friend on this site didn't get on me about it.

many people have asked me to put my face as my profile pic. but I never do it I just put up a band artwork or some musician so it could confuse people and make them look closer to see if its me or not lol

Because its a trend, people do what others are doings cause they don't want to feel left out. Sometimes it for self validation, if people show that person that they care what they are doing then it makes them feel good about themselves as well as important. Its possible that they may not feel like they are noticed in their personal lives very often and wish they were. But yeah a lot people do it for glorification. Honestly i never hoped on the trend, im not photogenic and don't care much for photos.

1- To give a boost of confidence to themselves, I guess it's the same as in standing in front of a mirror and trying poses to be confident of your look.
2- Becasue they are narcistic people who like getting attention, and boasting in front of people.

Because its an addiction for them... they always want the feedback from other people, making them into really people who have a low self esteem... but they portray themselves as super confident or super healthy or super pretty or whatever, but if you took away that media they would loose their identity... very sad tbh

Usually they're after the dopamine rush that comes with likes and mentions in social media, the only way to get exposure is to share content.
In time your brain associates taking a selfie with a short burst of pleasure inducing dopamine and it will seek it unless you break the habit

Personally, I just take selfies just to keep in my phone but I never post them and if I do it’s just on Snapchat just for no reason because that’s the purpose of the app. It’s just now society is built on competition and seeking confidence with the opinions of others.

Everything in moderation. On one hand, yes it can be overdone and some people become obsessed with it but on the other hand, if they're enjoying life, they like to snapshot their life in that moment, whats wrong with that? Thats why I take them, its a memory of that day for me at least. I can remember my feelings or just thought I looked good lol Simple as that.

I am wondering the same thing. This doesn't mean I never took such photos, sometimes it is the only means of taking a photo of oneself or a group and sometimes taking pictures symbolic of one's current life are something that may be looked back at in the future. However, I take those photos once a year or even less frequently. I have no idea why some persons seem to _want_ to share every minute detail with the world.

I think the obsession of taking selfies is annoying. It's mostly women obsessed with them. It's a lot to do with narcissism, conceit/insecurity, seeking approval, attention seeker, etc. It's this day and age that everyone thinks too highly of themselves.

Because we don't see all the times they DON'T take them. It's observer bias; we only know of those instance where the behavior occurred.

ER staff do this with motorcycle enthusiasts, for example. Since the vast majority of riders they see have been in accidents, they mis-estimate the hazard. They're simply unaware of the hundreds of thousands of rider hours that DON'T end up in the emergency room.

I came off age in the 90s, anybody who took a selfie without a friend in it was high on themselves.

Attention seekers. I was another site recently where this girl was having a serious meltdown over someone stealing her photos. She followed her little rant with posting 10 or more new selfies. If you are going to post photos of yourself non-stop on the internet you can't really whine if people take those pics to do whatever they want with them. They are attention seekers and largely delusional.

Because people are have no personality for the most part lol. I noticed this when i was on ig. For the most part i follow artist (like mehsluf) and artist tend to only upload art. Musician (like my bro) only really upload music and promotions, military up load military etc etc. If the only thing you have to offer is your physical appearance self is the only thing you can take.

Some people just seek refuge in random strangers, for different reasons. Some have no friends in real life and are trying to fill that kind of a void and others just get satisfaction out of all the likes and cringy comments sayin shit like “Queen” and “OMG you’re so beautiful”
