When we were little, my brother, cousin and I always went together to recollect candy and ended up with so much candy my parents hid part of them from us so we didn't eat too much. My cousin was allowed to stay with us every Halloween and we all missed the next day of school and stayed at home playing nintendo while eating cereal for breakfast and eating candy, it was great <3

I do. I love pretending to be the character and eating the sweets. I must first be certain that they’re vegan, and would give away the rest.

Holidays where there are loads of crowds are scarier. The Hallowe’en costumes don’t have to be scary. I remember being Harry Potter, a stereotypical hippie, and alien.

What’s your country? Hallowe’en ain’t a national holiday and is celebrated in many countries by people of several faiths. I live in Spain and would love to celebrate Hanukkah, Purim, Passover, Rosh haShana, Sukkot, Pi Days, Earth Day, and Eid al-Adha/al-Fitr.

Assalāmu alaykum warahmatullāhi wabarakatuh! I’m a Musulman as well, but I can still celebrate non-Muslim holidays, as long as I don’t do anything contrary to Islam. Ramadan is a month, ninth in the Hijri calendar, and We just were commanded to fast it. What are oil lamps and how do We celebrate it?

@HippieVeganJewslim Alaikum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. A Muslim should never do what people of another religion do, that is, not resemble them. otherwise he/she will be one of them. Hz. Muhammad has a hadith in this direction. Whether good or bad, a Muslim should never do what is done in other religions. So is Halloween. As far as I know, oil lamps were only celebrated in Ottoman lands. This tradition was brought by the Ottoman state. I do not know in which Muslim countries other than Turkey, oil lamps are celebrated. There are 5 oil lamps in 1 year. 4 of them are in the months of Recep Şaban and Ramadan. Regaip, Miraç, Berat oil lamp and Kadir night, respectively. The night of power is also considered as an oil lamp. the fifth is the mawlid lamp, that is, Hz. It is celebrated in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the anniversary of the birth of Muhammad. Apart from these 5 oil lamp nights, Ramadan and Sacrifice Feasts, Friday and Ashura are celebrated. As far as I know, there are no holy days or nights apart from these. Muslims should not do sacred or social things that are in other religions.

Doesn’t that contradict the Hadith — if the oil lamps really were Ottoman before Muslims came, then that’s messed-up. Hallowe’en ain’t a religious holiday anymore, but quite festive — demanding sweets from neighbours. I don’t believe in anything Hallowe’enish about it.

People in different Muslim countries sometimes copy. I’ve seen Pakistani Muslims wearing bindis. I’ve heard that Indian Muslims also sometimes touch parents’ feet. Jeans were invented by a Jew, and everyone now wears them.

@HippieVeganJewslim Don't expect me to love Halloween though. yes, everyone imitates each other, but we should be careful not to do what people of other religions do as much as possible. As for the oil lamp, yes, these were holy days during the Ottoman period. but there is no contradiction with the hadiths. The Ottoman state is a state that was established long after the time of Muhammad. There is no conflict in timing. If you have anything you want to ask, you can ask.

OK. If celebrating a holiday doesn’t mean breaking any of the Qur’ānic commandments, then I see not why it shouldn’t be celebrated. Christmas in USA is wrong, as it has some Xtian/pagan elements. Hanukkah doesn’t seem wrong, as according to the New Testament, Isa (s) celebrated it. By the way, I don’t trust ahadith, as many are fraudulent and the Qur’ān says it’s the final testament.

@HippieVeganJewslim You haven't learned enough about the Qur'an and the religion of Islam. It's normal for this to happen because of the country you live in. They are trying to assimilate many groups, especially Muslims. You say that you do not trust hadiths, this is a very wrong thing. Extremely accurate hadiths are already written in reliable sources. There are, of course, fabricated hadiths, but it is clear that they are fabricated as well. Hadiths complement the Qur'an. Not everything is written in the Qur'an. We will learn from hadiths about things that are not written in the Qur'an.

I still do things found in some ahadith. I read the Qur’ān like six times, but my folks don’t want me to practise Islam. They won’t let me go to masjid, read the Qur’ān/sunnah, fast or pray. According to the Qur’ān, it’s the final testament. I reckon I don’t trust ahadīth because I’m sceptical.

@HippieVeganJewslim be skeptical about most things, but never be skeptical about Islam. Try to learn by asking things that seem strange to you. If necessary, ask in different places not once, but several times. Is your family Muslim? Why is it forbidden to pray you?

My mum and stepfather are Islamophobes or at least misomuslims. Father ain’t, but he flew to Haifa, and won’t talk to me. I’m not sceptical about qur’an, but a few ahadīth. I gladly reverted at 17. Maybe I’m sceptical due to my schizo disorder.
