The minimum wage salary for an American is about $10.00 an hour now. It used to be $7.25 a few years ago.

A brand new car (depending on the year and brand) is about $30,000-$60,000 can be more if you are getting a fully loaded car or a luxury brand vehicle.

A used car (depending on year and brand) can run you between $6,000-$20,000.

Because of inflation, price on use cars rose.

It all depends.

An American can make about $10.00 an hour but the earnings that month, depend on how many hours were available to work.

A full work week is 40hrs. 10.00 x 40 = $400 a week = $1,600 a month

Most Americans are not getting full work weeks 4 x every month. There are weeks where only 9hrs were available to work. 9x10x4=$360 a month. If you take $360 and x30 you get $10,800. You can get a used car from 06-08. It all depends.

Also, you cannot purchase a car and then drive it. You have to buy the insurance, the tag, and the sticker that goes on the back. Cost for that depends on what state the resident lives in and other factors.

Turkey may have it harder but some Americans cannot afford cars.

Entry level bmw 3 series in USA is around 40.000 usd. Same car in Turkey starts from 93000 usd.
And minimum wage in Turkey is around 300 dollar per month.
If you work at a non minimum wage job for example as a doctor, lawyer, engineer etc. They earn approximately 500 to 1500 dollar per month.

Just because an American makes more on a full time minimum work wage per month, doesn't mean the cars aren't still expensive. I was only talking about cars not other items. Do you have to pay anything else on a car in Turkey?

We have yearly tax which depends on model year and engine size of the car.
I pay 9500 turkish lira for 2015 bmw 525d
Other expenses are maintanence, gas etc. just like everywhere else.

@MCheetah He doesn't think cars are expensive in America because America does not heavily tax their cars. Turkey is applying a 60%-80% (maybe more) tax on their cars. Which raises the price significantly making America's cars look "cheap" compared to Turkey.

You're wrong. Minimum wage differs by state. In some, it's high. But in most of the US, it's $7.25 an hour. And that's assuming you work full time. Which would be $580 a paycheck BEFORE taxes. In a month, that's barely $1,160 gross pay.

After taxes, it's more like $773.34. Only a little more than twice as much as you said Turkish minimum wage is. And many minimum wage workers don't even get 40 hours a week in America.
