Are most people harsh and lack empathy about others?

I don't know why, but I sometimes feel like this

A lot of people are burned so many times, they choose to shut down to prevent further hate from hurting them and that could cause them to abuse others since they are no longer aware of the needs of the around them since they operate in a vacuum that requires brain stimulation and they are no longer getting that from empathy for people.

the people on this site all generalize and attack genders, races, and more. But then when you ask them if they are sexist or racist they literally say no and believe it...
That's the most scary thing about hurtful people, they really believe they are in the right. Hitler did.

We had empathy, then we got barated for being patronizing or toxic, now we don't care for others.
