So many prominent politicians are pedophiles that they need to soften the blow I guess as more and more of them are outed. One crime which pretty much every civilization that has ever existed hates is pedophilia. It’s the people who think they are above the law and better than the rest of us who would rather get their sicko jollies at the expense of destroying a child because they can get away with it.

They haven't changed the name. It's just an umbrella term used in the global Sex Offender Research and Sex Offender Treatment Community.

Pedophile (prepubesent attraction) is just one category of MAP (minor attracted people). There is also Hebephile who is someone attracted to pubescent children and ephebophile who are attracted to post-pubesent children.

It's important to remember that majority of minor attracted people have never offended or acted on their feelings and many are receiving help. The more we destigmatize this topic the more help these people can receive. It's not a choice on who you are attracted to, it's a choice to act on it.

Sounds fake. The far right fake news knows threats to kids is the one thing that invokes unthinking anger in people and so are pressing whatever they can short of outright accusing the entire left of being pedophiles (at least not yet) to get more unthinking support from their base. The fake news that anyone, at all, is trying to come up with a PC term for pedophiles is crafted to push all the anger buttons of right wing media consumers. My guess is they hope right wingers act with violence and then they will be married to the lie, because if they let right wing media get proven wrong then they have to admit to being both stupid enough to fall for it and a murderer.

If you're attracted to people that you damage by your attraction, and who are too young for a legal adult to be involved with, and it's illegal too, you've got a serious problem.

I understand the technical difference... But a pedophile is still a pedophile to me.
By the same token, a rapist who hasn't raped anyone yet is still a rapist. If they're hiding in the bushes near a running trail -- even if a woman hasn't run by them yet -- they're still a rapist.
