I'll give them some level of compassion or neutrality if they haven't actually done anything illegal.
I have looked into this a little, and one neurologist out there thinks that being attracted to children is a neurological miscommunication. Where most people look at a child and parental/maternal signals come on, pedophiles' brains misinterpret it as sexual attraction. The jury's still out on whether this is 90% of all cases and whether it is even true.
On the basis that it is true, I won't "hate" a pedophile given that they haven't done anything. If it is a neurological misfiring, that it out of their control and just unfortunate.
However, I will naturally not give much respect at all to someone who has acted on their desire.
Perhaps with time, more wide-scale neurological studies will occur. In the meantime, I am not going to ever consider them part of the LGBTQ community or say that their urges are "okay". And I am uncomfortable with pedophilia regardless of its cause. But I will respect someone who attempts to get help on this thing that seems not to go away in their head, and pray for them that they stay resistant to their urges.

Damn it! This is going way too far!! These people are sickos and belong in jail!! Years ago in Florida there were Pedophiles in a prison for molestation. These criminals asked the people in charge at the prison if they could be chemically castrated. There reason was that they will always want to sex with children, the urges will never go away. They said when they get out of prison they will keep sexually assaulting children. But the prison said NO to their requests. These sickos need to be caught and chemically castrated! They want it too. I have to wonder if they were chemically castrated would this "Attraction to minors" end their "Attraction?"

Acting on it would be the crime but being minor attracted is within that person. Just like psychopathy, that itself isn't a crime but acting on it is and there's no justification for it. You can't get arrested for your thoughts   but there is always shame thinking it out loud that's why you don't really hear people admitting it even if they do ask for help.

It's a disorder at its core, but technically not a crime until they actually do something that victimizes a minor, with or without consent (consent being legally irrelevant if they are minors).

It's certainly a crime. It's illegal. But is it a disorder? Maybe, but there's debate to be had there. An actual pedophile probably has a disorder, but the word "pedophile" has become an umbrella term that doesn't technically apply to everywhere we use it. Anyway, this is a topic that you can't really talk about without upsetting people.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter if it's a disorder or not. No one wants to talk about it and if we can't talk about it, we also can't study or treat it. Maybe it's a disorder, maybe it's not. We'll probably never know because no one actually cares.

The person that believes it is acceptable to call a person that is attracted to minors is severely confused in what is acceptable behavior and is too concerned about being softer towards guys that have serious issues. Just because you use "nicer" words does not make their behavior acceptable (even if they have not acted out YET, at some point they will). I remember that people in prisons were previously called "convicts" or "prisoners", now they are called "inmates". Changing the name does not change the fact that they are people in prison or in the case of this professor; they are still pedophiles.

Your first problem is you're watching the news which is full of lies and bullshite.
It's not a political thing, it has always been illegal and a mental illness, no one accepts it, and no one is calling it that phrase.
What you saw was a drama causing piece. For example pedophiles tried to make themselves part of the LGBTQ community and everyone of the community shouted out "they are not and never will be part of the LGBTQ community", but the news would say it is just to rial people up for views.

People don't like it, but there's lots of things don't like about each other, that doesn't make them illegal. Sexual assault is the crime, not who you're attracted to, no matter how inappropriate. But the left's defense of it is more than that, it's creepy. It's frequently getting people who have a history of such *crimes* and putting them in with children, e. g drag queen story time, or defending people with a history of such *crimes*, e. g "Rosenbaum was a hero".

If someone one has such an attraction and has never hurt anyone and seeks out a support group for it and deals with it appropriately, I can't fault them.

The issue comes when they act on their urges, thinking about things isn't criminal acting on it is. There's no point shaming someone for having pedophilic ideas it's not helpful, if they have access to therapy it could prevent them from ever acting on it.
