They should be released into the care of people/org whom are competent to deal with such emotionally ill people and housed until deemed safe to society, which can be never. They need deep level of healing the current system is not capable of providing.

We may not have such competent people as they aren't being fostered.

I've heard (not fact) many are just acting out from their abuses in life. People give from their hearts... and their hearts are corrupted by the world.. trauma begets more trauma... for it's just emotional training. Some personalities are able to filter it out and not repeat, others repeat or create new issues. Maybe some truth to "these are just wounded people".. not all, some have damaged brains and are not fixable by current society... e. g. others are making choices and too far gone. In such cases, execute them is valid. Emotional damage gets passed on generations so may not even have occurred be in their lifetimes. Reality is... this is so far out of scope it isn't realistic, because our society is so screwed up...

The state of humanity is sad, we do need salvation from our damaged emotions, else the damage creates more damage. This type of crime is worse than others because it's impacting new humans, but in it's fundamentals, is the same kind of stuff... people are screwed up, selfish, and will hurt others to have their inner needs met.

If the 5 year old impacted in this event doesn't get sufficient treatment and resolution, she's prone to fall into similar traps and patterns repeat. More effort needs put here to provide for the security and emotional healing. And we are failing at this... look at all the children being traumatized. The "harvest" is great, the workers are few... is as true as ever.

Realistic answer: they are locked up until the underlying root issues are resolved and they are not a threat, or executed in some cases. No time parameters. That is very hard to implement though due to society, and discriminations and such.

I say either of the first two is fine. Imprison them for life or give them a death penalty, I wouldn't want kids to be put at risk again if the paedophiles end up being set for free rather than staying in there for behaving good in the jail. As long as they're in there, I'll feel at peace knowing kids are safe. If they made multiple offense or even ended up killing a child, they don't deserve to live while the kids parents mourn for life after losing their child who could have lived and lived a good life.

Have to be careful on definitions. By "pedophile" do you mean someone who is sexually attracted to kids, or someone who acts on that attraction? Are you counting physical sexual assault of children, or also things like watching child porn? Are you separating young children from teenagers who could possibly be viewed as consenting. Are you assuming there is no doubt about their guilt?

To me sexual assault of children is like any other violent crime and the penalties should be commensurate. I see no particular difference between sexually abusing a child an beating them to the point of lasting harm, or shooting a child without provocation.

You know what I'm torn between imprisonment and execution. People who agree with option 3 are sickos. I've read this book where pedophiles were interviewed and I wanted to throw up. I was so mad. I think it depends. If the guy has no remorse and was taking enjoyment out of the vulgarity of what they were doing, I am indifferent towards imprisoning them vs the death penalty.

If it's someone who knows they have a mental problem and wants to recover, they should be allowed that chance and be put somewhere that can help or study them.
