Will you unfollow back your friend if they unfollowed you in the first place?

I have not followed anybody yet I am probably accidentally offending people who are following me, I don't exactly know how it works and feel like there is not much need for PMs here since it is anonymous, I will answer the same questions where other people can see the answer as I would in a PM but I also don't want to be rude.

Yeah I totally get it. I unfollowed my two group members because they didn't wished me on my birthday. They unfollowed me back after 3 months when they noticed it. They shouldn't have done that if they really considered me their friend.

They knew my birthday and even saw the story and still didn't wished me, which made me upset. After one of them wished me the next day, the others felt obligated to do so.
