Which would you save?

You've been stranded on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere.

A small boat has washed up on the shore... it's your way off the island, and you desperately think it can get you back to civilization.

You see several things floating in the water, being bashed by heavy waves:

A canoe paddle

A small sail on a small mast

A wooden rudder

A tarp

A coil of rope

A fishing rod

The waves are washing them all out to sea, and you can only save one.

Which one do you save? And why?

I'm staying and I'll hold... I'll get that fishing rod

and then I'll just wait for other chances to get rescued... I could start smoky fires that could be caught by sailors or satellites...

I could even use large rocks to write down SOS messages on the sand... satellites do catch those as well and then some people look for those online just to see what they find out there in the middle of nowhere... lmao

Mast and sail.

Sail doubles as a tarp and for catching water and long threads from it can make fishing line

Mast doubles as an oar and a steering device and smacking fish to eat

I'm stranded so i don't need the rope or can make it from vegetation on the island.

I assume you mean you can put one of those items in the boat. I'd go for the sail. Not only would it move the boat I could also use it as a tarp and to catch water. Sails also make it easier for other boats to spot you

The rod and rope would be gone, sunk. Unless wrapped around one of the other objects in which case I would have those too.

Sail with mast.

1 - can become a "signal" reflecting sun.

2 - can become a temporary shelter

3 - sail means rope. Can probably mcgyver some sort of fishing rod/line - IF there are fish available on the island. Most probably, not edible ones.

I'd save the sail because there must be a good reason most small ships use them. I couldn't spend hours canoeing and the rudder probably doesn't work if it's in the water. If I could save two, maybe the fishing rod.

The rope, you can build all that stuff using resources on the island and the rope. Except maybe the sail. But it probably wouldn't have been much help
