In actual sports, yes. I’m just learning how to play hockey this past year and a half or so, and one of the things I’ve had to recalibrate is taking a “shoot first” mentality. So, for example, if I'm breaking towards the goal with the puck, and I have a teammate alongside of me, my initial reaction was to look to make the pass, not because I was afraid to take the shot, but because I didn’t want to seem selfish. My background is in football and baseball, so the dynamic is a little different in those sports where I’m not faced with as many selfish/unselfish play decisions. My hockey instructor just told us “Look, the point of this sport is to score goals. Don’t take ill-advised shots if there are better options, but if you have the shot, rip it.” So I’ve adjusted how I play, but I’ll still say that, as much as I love scoring goals, I still get a lot of satisfaction setting up a scoring opportunity with a good pass.
In other venues, like work, I’m probably a team player to a fault. In my management jobs, I’ve very much realized that if I want something done correctly, I likely have to just do it myself. I have very little confidence in others’ ability to do satisfactory work, lmao, and I just can’t be bothered with reprimanding and yelling and screaming. I just shrug, sigh, and do it myself. I’d love to have the confidence in others to delegate tasks but there’s just no one I usually trust to do it how I would’ve done it. But in a more perfect world, yes, I’d be all about team play in the workplace. “More hands make less work.”
Almost forgot my obligatory Taking Back Sunday reference. One of my favorite songs of all time🤘

Best of luck with ice hockey. Remember what Wayne Gretzky, acknowledged to be the greatest player of all time, has said... "A shot not taken is a goal not scored!" If you have a good shot, take it, it's not being selfish.
No. Usually teams are full of idiots who can't do their jobs or follow orders. So I am not a team player cause I'd rather succeed or fail on my own volition tan failing due to someone else's incompetence or laziness. If I HAVE to be on a team and the leader is someone capable of leading and not "randomly assigned" as part of some group exercise, I'll do what I have to do and follow orders, but it doesn't mean I'm going to be a "team player" beyond just fulfilling my role or duties.
In short, I believe most people are too stupid, lazy, selfish, and unreliable, for me to ever want to be a team player. I get things done well on my own 99% of the time.
If I played in sports, sure. If at a job, yes, I'd be a good team player an work with colleagues to the nest of my ability. However, on my own I have to be honest and say I am too competive and I like to win! Especially in one on one games.
I love being part of a team, but I'm a natural leader 😊

I am president of my congregation and president of my fraternity's alumni association. I MUST be a team player to succeed in those roles!
of course I am... not only I've been into sports for about 25 years and most if not all of them being team sports
but that's also my way in life for so many things, family, friends, school, work, my business, neighbors, community and so many other things...
many of the great things in my life are precisely because of this, getting along and working great with the other people in my life, especially the ones that are the most close to me
I might value individualism very much in my life, but I also have it to work the best I can with others, and not to isolate myself... lol
Tean work makes the dream work. At my job, i am a team leader, my responsibility is to make sure that we all help each other. I can't make everyone happy but i do try to make everyone comfortable, especially the bitter ones (there is always the bitter ones). I work at Scania truck factory, transmission sector, we produce a new transmission box every 1½ minutes. So without team work and being a team player, this is a nightmare of a job
https://youtu.be/LuDaPQRnztUWhen I was younger and played sports I was more into team sports. I was pretty good at pingpong, but I dropped it because it's not as fun to celebrate victories alone.
Same when it comes to gaming I'm more into multiplayer/co-op than playing single player games.
Profesionally I guess I can do either or, but I guess it's different when it comes to things we do for joy since I want to share that with others and help others.
nope, I ran marathons because I don't play well with othrrs.
@exitseven Thanks for your honesty.
I love to run and surf and play chess. Hmmmm, not such a team player.
@TroyDT2 Thanks for your honesty.
Everyone has to work together, but if one has something to say, speak it. They’re all in this together. I don’t think I’m a good leader, so better not do things on my own. Together We stand; div/ded We fall.
Only when it benefits me
Depends on how you define it.
It depends.
Always I have to!
