They weren't.

As the technology was relatively new, and there wasn't much of a scaled market. Just like electric cars are seen as "expensive" today but in about 10 years will be relatively cheap and some other technology will take over the mantle.

In Turkey, most people didn't have pc till mid 2000s.

My father was a doctor. Since he was a doctor, he was earning good money by turkish standards. He bought his PC in late 90s.

I think my laptop cost about $1000 in 1996 and it wasn’t an Apple, I think it was Compaq, electronics were always expensive way back when they first come out, I remember a CD player costing a ‘$1000 in the early 80s and all you could buy was classical music

Economies of scale and bigger pieces meant higher material costs. Among other thing, one of the first computers took up a whole room. That means they had to pay rent just for the space it took up.

Because it was only used for business men and rich people that felt its value for their careers.

computers were different at that times, only certain people needed them.

At that time, pc games weren’t competitive enough to stand against nintendo and other consoles that had a lot of experience in the gaming industry and were a lot cheaper.

Wolfenstein 3D came in 1992. Doom came in 1993. They are fps games made for PC.

If you knew the competitive nature of consoles at that time, specially how cheap it was to make them and they were really creative at developing exclusive games, you will understand my statements.

Still making a pc was and still more expensive to make than a console.

Not really, I could build a descent spec machine for the time for around £250, it was buying them from main manufacturers like Dell that pushed up prices, but today it is more expensive to build your own than buy off the shelf.

Yes, a decent PC was about a thousand bucks.
