Can you name the event and the city and country where it happened?

The correct answer is BHOPAL, INDIA.

On the night of 2-3 December 1984, there was a leak of methyl isocyanate gas at the Union Carbide India Ltd (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal. This industrial disaster is considered the world's worst in history.

Methyl isocyanate is extremely toxic. There is no known antidote. Exposure can lead to pulmonary or lung edema, emphysema and hemorrhages, bronchial pneumonia and death.

I remember this, unless there is something very similar that I'm not thinking of.

This would be in the 'I' country. I'm not positive about the company but I think it's the 'D' company. So if I got the company right, it was an American company with facilities in another country.

Oh goodness! I should know this. It was somewhere in India, a gas release, was it a union carbide plant?

No idea. I'm guessing it's not in the west because something on that scale would long be remembered. It sounds like something that would happen in a country that didn't care about health and safety regulations. Thinking perhaps somewhere in China, India or an African country.

I read about it in school. I think it was a chemical disaster at a Union Carbide facility in Bhopal, India.

Why thank you. It was one of a few disasters discussed in an Organic Chemistry class in school. Also, my high school bestie’s parents came from Bhopal. Her dad’s a chemical engineer and worked at the Union Carbide facility there, but the family immigrated to the US before the disaster.

I had never heard of Bhopal, India before this incident but it was all we heard about for weeks after it happened. As I recall, it was an unintentional release of a posonous gas.
