Yesterday I attended the birthday party of a friend turning 40. Music, drinks and raving as usual, and I toasted her as our "40 years old girl" while she kept saying she's not much a girl anymore.
my question to you is What is « youth » to you? Is it only limited to an age ? or your health? Your lifestyle? How you live your life?
A human being life expectancy is around 83 years old. So at 40, you still work, you’re still healthy ( mostly), you can still have fun and enjoy life fully. if you compare 40 and 80 years old, you’re like a baby at this age ! So I would say you’re still young IF you took a good care of yourself and you still enjoy life. You’re probably not as « cool » and don’t know all the trends but you can still be and feel young. But again not all 40 years olds ( even 30 years olds) are healthy and enjoy life.
I would say that at 50 years old you are middle age ( to me that’s the new middle age ) because this is when your health deteriorate, you get more and more tired, and just enjoy staying more in the house then going out, etc ( for most of people ) . Again, some people still feel very healthy, they are still in shape and look young at this age !
Some people are exceptional. At 60 even 70 they look good, they look young and healthy. So at the end of the day, it’s about the person and how they feel about themselves, how they live their lives, how they take care of themselves. Age is just a number. Society loves to generalize things and put a number on what’s young and what’s old.

I mean she’s right. She’s not young anymore. According to Erkisons theory of psychosocial development she’s transitioning into middle adulthood; she may have grown children and is experiencing an ‘empty nest’ (or no kids or still having young kids, from having offspring later in life), an individual may begin to relate and care for aging parents, develop leisure activities and adjust to physical changes. 40-65 is the age range that middle adulthood takes place in. So she’s not young but she’s not old it’s just a new experience.
Yes, 40 is old. For women, they lose their looks at somepoint. Faster than men. Some start in their early 30's, some mid to later 30's. Some can look good after 40 and some even 50. At somepoint, they lose it.
I once saw a woman who was very good looking up to about 55, and less than three months she fell apart. She gained a lot of weight out of no where, and her ankles puff up really large, making her look both old and unhealthy looking. And just months earlier she played tennis and ran 5k's pretty regularly.
As a guy, I like beautiful women. I think in the old days a man would fall in love with a beautiful woman and they would both get old and fall apart together. Now many people stay single forever, especially if they come out of older long-term relationships that can become toxic.
And as an older guy, I am well-aware that an older woman who doesn't look her age has her days numbered. There is no escaping that. Or my biology to seek a radiant, youthful, exciting woman, than an older one who will not be able to keep up with me, or I keeping up with her future costly medical conditions. Sad to say.

When I was 17 years old, someone who was 40 years old was ancient. . . horribly old. Now, I am 6, and someone who is 40 years old is very young!

I don't think anyone is considered "old" until they hit like 70 but that's just my opinion. If you feel old its probably because of age making someone feel ancient but caring for physical health can have an impact. I'm 24 but feel like I'm 18-21 still lol.

Tom Brady, Cristiano Ronaldo...
I am sure both of them feel quite younger than you and me both, lmao...
my digestive system is at least 52 years old... I used it all up during my early 20's Well people aren't so age sensitive like in the past.. plus people kinda look younger too.. I've seen lots of people in their 30s and 40s who enjoy the same stuff as their teen kids.. even when I play online games I come across a lot of older people sometimes up to their 50s...
No. 40 is not young, it's solidly middle aged. I say this as a 52 year old.
For women, "young" ends at 30 and for men about 35. Anyone who says otherwise is just failing to cope with reality.I remember when I just turned 18 and had a room mate at college who was 22. I thought that was super old, especially for a freshman.
Now, there is a woman in her early 50s that I'm interested in. She's a hot young chick. :)
You're both right. I think the word 'girl' is silly for a 40-year-old woman (or frankly, a woman of most ages. But also 40 isn't old. Perhaps not "young" but somewhere in the middle. That said, tell that to my back and knees.
Yes, it seems pretty young to me. Especially if the person still looks young.
I think each generation has it's place, 20, 40, 60, 80 and they can interact with the other generations but keep most of their activities in their own.
It depends on how well she/he takes care of themself.
Nah. Not to me. That's old as balls, in my opinion. 27 is when one stops being young, to me.
My mom is 42, but honestly still looks like she could pass for someone in their mid to late 20's, so I say it really depends on your health, genetics and all that junk
No. Here's the real deal.. I'm about to turn 44. My back and legs have hurt for a grip. I still use alcohol for "medicinal purposes" and currently lost my train of thought. None of that looks young!
I would say it's somewhere in the middle, it's still younger than 50 to 99 though.
40 is old for a woman. Even 35 is old for a woman. But for a man, it’s still young. Men in general are considered attractive far longer than a woman is. A woman peaks around 25.
depends on how old you are. for like 80 years old that's still young
If you split the average life span into only two categories, 40 is still young.
Naaah. 20 and 30 is young. 40 and 50 is middle age and 60+ is a boomer, lol!
When I'm out running in the morning there are people twice my age who can keep my pace for a little while, and I'm not slow.
Age is just a number, health is what effects longevity and looks.
She's becoming a woman now at the age of 40.
