Do you believe that there are wrong opinions?

I'm not talking about someone who wants to advocate for bad, immoral, etc. I'm talking about things like "Do you like [fill in the blank]?" or "What's your favorite [fill in the blank]?"

Genesis of this question is someone on GaG asked a question. I provided an opinion. Was told my opinion was wrong. It was about soda, not about something life critical.

So, what about you? Are there wrong opinions?

Opinions, by definition, can not be right, or wrong. They are opinions, and opinions are subjective.

They can lead someone to draw incorrect conclusions, or they can be based on faulty information, but true opinions are incapable of being wrong.

Now, if someone tries to frame an incorrect fact as their opinion, that can be wrong, but that's because it's not truly an opinion at all. It is actually an untrue statement.

For example: saying, "I think McDonald's is good" is an opinion, and it is based on that person's preference. It can't be wrong, because it is subjective, and unique to that person's point of view.

However, saying, "It is my opinion that McDonald's was founded in 1980," is factually incorrect, despite them saying it is their opinion. McDonald's was opened in 1955, so their statement can be proven false, even though that's what they believe.

Certain opinions can be right or wrong. Any opinion that one holds about any objectively verifiable fact, will either be true or false, thus right or wrong.

Other sorts of opinions are not based on objectively verifiable facts and so may not be right or wrong. “I prefer strawberry ice cream” may be right or wrong, but no one can verify it, so colloquially we would say that it is neither right or wrong. Certainly if I were to say that strawberry ice cream is the best ice cream flavor, well this could not be decided so is neither right or wrong, but rather just an expression of my preference.

You're confused.

Opinions can be wrong, right, misconstrued or subjective. It's in the nature of opinions.

It's one reason the world is getting more divided as too many are happy with opinions and not enough with facts and laws. So called "expert opinion" is a misnomer as it's still an opinion.

It's one of the many downsides to freedom of speech. You give the fool equal credence to the scholar, and the fool will win out, and take everyone down with them eventually.

Given the parameters you gave no I can think Dr pepper is the best soda to mix with whiskey but you make like coke so my opinion is right for me but not for others. Now if we eliminate the parameters then yeah people can have wrong opinions like earlier I saw someone posted they think firewomen and cops shouldn't be allowed to start an only fans because "moral standing" whatever that means and I couldn't disagree with that opinion more as it's silly as fuck

HAHA... something like preference of this or that product? no way... if it were an opinion that could be harmful to someone if heeded, yeah, OK.
But mostly opinions are just personal preferences and the like.

Depends if there's a truth and a fact, for example if someone says alligators aren't reptiles when they are clearly reptiles then their opinion is wrong

Right. No question or issue with that. (Great example, by the way.) No this is purely preferences, for example: green is the best color or rainy days are better than sunny days. That sort of thing -- there's no right or wrong.

No those are real opinions, but many people confuse opinions with facts sometimes and it's not really an opinion if there's a truth

No. An opinion is your personal belief it cannot be wrong, though it can be influenced by incorrect information.

Potentially yeah.🤣 I know it sounds absurd, and I agree would agree that it is. But some people have some really out there "codes" that they live by.
I had this one lady on here call me a "f***ing reptilian". Because I eat meat. To her anyone who eats meat is a reptile and unevolved. It wasn't enough for her to be vegan. Everybody else had to climb up the evolutionary ladder with her.
All you can do is chuckle man. It's pointless to argue with people like that.
