Should False or stupid opinions still be respected?

I often hear people saying that we should respect everyone’s opinions but I’ve also seen people say something completely false and then say that it’s just their opinion. An opinion is something that isn’t right or wrong so claiming something that is factually wrong as an opinion shouldn’t be respected.

I think that's a load of old codswallop, mate. Just because someone's got an opinion, it don't mean we've got to respect it, know what I mean? I mean, if someone's spouting a load of rubbish, just saying it's their opinion don't make it right, innit? If someone says the Earth is flat, or that 2 + 2 equals 5, I'm not going to respect that opinion, am I? That's just nonsense, and I've got no problem telling them they're wrong.

Now, I'm not saying we should go around insulting people just because they've got a daft opinion, but we shouldn't be afraid to call out something that's clearly false or stupid, either. I mean, that's how we learn, innit? We've got to be able to have a laugh and say, "Mate, you're talking rubbish," and then have a discussion about it.

This idea that all opinions are equal and deserve respect, it's a bit of a myth, if you ask me. I mean, some opinions are just plain wrong, and we should say so. It's not about being disrespectful, it's about being honest and having a bit of common sense, yeah? So, no, I don't think we should respect stupid or false opinions. We should challenge them, and have a good old-fashioned debate about it, instead. That's how we get to the truth, innit?
