Should Dogs that attack people be destroyed?

I know there are a lot of owners out there who would State "The dog would not hurt a fly" typical mom saying their children are not bullies. When a dog attacks a human with no provocation do you believe it should be destroyed?

Do you think the dogs owners have a lot to do with the dog aggressive behaviour?

What would you do if you had a gun and a dog was in the process of mauling your childs face off?

Yes, they absolutely should be. Because a dog that does that has the predisposition, and a much higher chance of doing it again than other dogs.

Sometimes, but not usually. There are breeds that are far more likely to attack people than others. I have springer spaniels... real ones, from British breeding, not what passes as "springer spaniels" with most Americans, which have a problem called rage syndrome. Real springers would literally never attack a person. It's not in their genetic makeup. They are sweet and biddable by nature, because they were bred to be for centuries.

Pit bulls, on the other hand, are genetically predisposed to attack, and many of them do it regardless of anything their owners do, or don't do. My aunt, who is a sweet lady and a responsible dog owner, had a pit bull she raised from a tiny puppy. It attacked the FedEx delivery lady without provocation. She ended up with 80+ stiches on her legs, hand and arm, and it could have been much worse. Fortunately a neighbor was nearby and beat the dog off with a shovel.

Pit bulls alone account for twice as many fatal attacks as ALL OTHER BREEDS COMBINED. And that doesn't even consider all the people who have been injured and maimed by pit bulls, but survived. Pit bulls are genetically programmed to attack, and pretending the only reason they do it is because of their owners is a very, very dangerous myth that needs to end. Pit bulls should be outlawed in the US, as they already have been in many other countries.

Thank you for these and this info. Whenever I see a pit bull, leash or not, I create distance immediately. Those things are just ridiculous.

First off you would have to be a idiot which the world is full of to have a aggressive breed of dog around a small child , kids are kind of shitty to animals... pulling ears pulling tails stuff like that you could not react quick enough 2 seconds is too long when your talking about a kid that stand just tall enough to stare a pit bull in the eyes it dont matter how nice the dog is. When I had my pit bull children were not allowed over to my house and I would have to lock the dog up before i had people over and I would blow a dogs brains out if it attacked my kid then i would probably kick the shit out of the owner after that they should just make it to where you need a liscense to own a aggressive dog but whats aggresive point is there is a gray area on this subject its kind of like you can't beat a woman but what if you got home and she has already killed one of your kids and she is in the process of drowning your other child , can you giver her a pop then?

Did you read "Unprovoked" that would mean pulling tails etc... I'm talking about dogs that just get up and maul people for no reason.

I do think it is a lot to do with owners and some dogs just see a child as compitition and will attack to display dominance but i think yes a dog that is attacking unprovoked should be put down

I had a hell of a time getting my pit back from animal control because it bit my girlfriend while i was at work , she went to doctor and they called animal control she was trying to break up my American rot male and my female pit up they were fighting over food i had to get special insurance on my house I had to have a caged in dog run to put her in when she went out I had to have her chipped but I was not going to just leave her she was a rescue and i did what I needed to get her back when they came for her I would not give her up because I thought they were going to put her down and I told the officer I would turn her over if you could promise me I can get her back if you can't do that then im blowing the dogs brains out right now. A bunch of cops at my house it was a fucked deal

No, just doing what any man would do to protect his dogs but still hold them accountable for their actions.

With the except of such cases as a dog attacking an intruder to the dogs property or protecting it's owner from another person attacking it, I would say yes. Dogs attacking children or going off their own property and showing aggression to people is unacceptable.

It’s extremely rare that dogs attack “with no provocation”; almost unheard of actually. Lousy owners should be put down and the dogs should be given a chance to rehabilitate with a proper master.

Unless it's like self defence of themselves or their owners. We have a German sheperd, one time these two creepy guy was hassling me and I opened the rear messenger door where he was in the back and Bailey jumped out snarling and growling. The guys pissed off fairly quickly, Bailey had steak that night. My fella now insists I keep a gun at least in the car if not my handbag, its pink he chose it and I choose the colour.
