Is lying always wrong?

I sometimes lie to people in work. For example, when they asked me who I was spending Christmas day with, I lied and told them I was spending it with family.

The truth is, I'll be spending it on my own because I don't see my family. I don't tell work colleagues personal info about myself because they're all gossips and two-faced

Most people's knee-jerk reaction is to say lying is always wrong. But there are circumstances where it's okay such as protecting yourself and loved ones.

You’d most likely lie to someone you’re feeling unsafe around to escape a dangerous and violent situation, or think about how we lie to kids about the tooth fairy and Santa.

The lie you told your colleagues, you were protecting your privacy and self. It didn't cause harm or impact an outcome in someone else's life - so I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah, i'm spending Christmas on my own. I was feeling guilty for lying, but I was embarrassed to admit I'm spending Christmas on my own. Plus, they'd start questioning me about my personal life. And I know they're gossips and look down on certain people. So I lied rather than have to explain my personal life to them

Overall, you’re keeping your personal life private within a working environment - that’s 100% justifiable (and relatable). Further, your business is yours; you choose who you share it with.
Healthy relationships rely on trust, respect and connection (so share that stuff with your real friends, not gossip queens).

Also, there’s absolutely nothing embarrassing about spending holidays solo! Many people prefer it, and others have demanding jobs, are travelling, have complicated families, etc.

I think it can be a great opportunity to have a ‘pamper the hell outa yourself day’. I’ve done that twice before and loved it. Once was my Birthday (travelling for work) and the other for Christmas (in a quarantine facility).

Thank you so much 💕 I was feeling down about being on my own at Christmas, especially when everyone in work is talking about spending it with family and/or partners. But you have helped me to feel. m a litte better about it. I'll use it as an opportunity it to pamper myself and work on my self-esteem.
