How to I overcome my mistakes I did in the past?

I feel like going through any type of mental therapy won’t help. I won’t be able to think of those things clearly. It would be like talking to a deaf person. I wouldn’t know how to classify my mental problems through talk therapy. I feel like I need something deeper. It’s just like I have to put myself through a lie detector test so I could control myself from lying if you know what I mean.
