Kennel training?

I hate this. Anytime I shut him in there he whines and whines. Eventually when he calms down I let him out. But not a whole lot of progress has been made in this department. Advice?

He’ll calm down eventually. What you can do is put him in, and reward the calm. So say you put him in and he calms down in 10 minutes reward the calm with a chew or a toy. Increase the time and continue to reward. How old is your dog, it’s also important to remember if you have a puppy they can’t hold their bladders forever so if he gets kennelled at night try to let him out every 2-3 hours.


Once he’s comfortable in the kennel you can offer a toy like a kong with a food or treats in it so your dog uses his brain too. I freeze my dogs food and give him a kong in the morning and he practically flies into his kennel because that’s where he’s fed

keep him kenneled 16 hours a day and out 8 hours. The whining will stop and it will become more like his home. Puppies take longer to grow into it. Familiar toys and appropriate chew toys are helpful for boredom and stress.

They get over it. Leave the cage door open when you are there with him around the house. Eventually, after play and ball chase, the dog will get tired of you and go directly into his resting space or home.

I don't know really... with dogs I've always had to resort to being abusive. Not real bad abuse, I'm talking like a flick in the ear. Only way to get them to stop eating bread off the table type of stuff. My dogs were always what I would call normal though... and don't even need that... I'm talking about other people's dogs that had issues.
