I’ve obtained the license but have yet to make the purchase.

I feel like it’s also inviting guns other than the one than mine but I still feel like it’s necessary.

I live in the UK so gun laws are very different to the US but I totally get why.
I myself have recently started clay shooting and I'm planning on buying a shit gun very soon and getting my gun licence.
In the UK you have to get a approval from your doctor and then you have applied and send of the doctor approval your local police fire arms department.
It took me and my boyfriend ages to hear anything back from the police but we do live in a town with probably the worst reputation on our police.
We eventually had a home visit were a officer came round and interviewed. I was really nervous but she was a lovely lady and the interview went great. I'm just waiting to get my licence now.
Once we get our guns we have to keep in a secure safe and declare every gun we buy to the police and they also come and inspect how are guns are looking after.
It's a lot of effort but Id rather have to jump through lots of barriers to unsure people's safety and so gun owners in the UK can hold a gun reputation which unfortunately in the US they don't.
Maybe if they had stricter gun laws they wouldn't get the reputation they have but I also agree but everyone should have the right to defend themselves and we don't have that in the UK unfortunately.
I feel like as soon as the government in the US try and take away guns they will also start trying to take away there rights and that's why they are pushing it so much.
I don't tell many people but I shoot because it's still kind of controversial in the UK and it's associated with being a bit of a Tory.
I've tried to get friends and family to try out my hobby but a lot of people think it's to expensive and too scary
I meant to say shot gun not a shit gun 🤣
The dunblane school massacre is a massive reason why the UK have such strict gun laws
Wow interesting
I think gun ownership is a good thing. As long as you aren't pulling it every time you feel "threatened".
There's line between being reasonable and being problematic with it 😅
It's a good idea for women, in some areas. And men, so I support your right.
Be trained, be responsible, and don't hit me if you are shooting at some idiot.
That said, mine is locked up and useless. I still recall the story of the man whom shot a burglar in his house, that was hiding in his closet. Turned out it was his little kid hiding.
You gotta be sharp, and lets be honest... there are days when we are not... watch Kim Potter video... in spite of all the training.
So I'd learn some martial arts, hope that protects you most of the time, have some mace and a knife handy, don't make yourself a target, have firearm if you feel competent, and hope you never need it, most of the time.. you won't. If you did, it often makes a situation worse because many mentally ill people will clamour for the opportunity to die. There's few times, when a gun is essential and saves a persons life.
Laws... I won't get into.
sorry you have to deal with defunct humans, our generation failed...
I just bought guns about a year ago. I have a handgun and a shotgun. I would strongly suggest to go to a gun range and take a gun safety course and get some practice time. I had only fired a gun a few times before so I wanted to get it right. I am angry that I had to do this but I have stopped feeling safe in my home and my environment.
Yeah, that’s kind of what made me decide to go and get my license in the first place at the gun range
Always practice too, constantly. Target shooting is a great way to keep the skills up, this is one of those skills if you don't use it constantly you start to suck at it. It is why LEO's have to spend so much time on the range practicing.

I'm 100% in favor the the right to own any kind of gun. Nothing beyond semiautomatic.
Anyone can own a car, even without a license or insurance. They only need those things in order to operate a motor vehicle on a public highway. The same should be true for guns. Anyone should have the right to own one or more.
A person who owns a gun should take voluntary training and learn how to be proficient in the safe use and handling, including disassembling, assembling, cleaning and firing. Target practice is essential and it's fun.
Women are the fastest growing demographic in gun ownership and gun classes. I think that's great.
Guns are excellent self protection. And an armed citizenry makes society safer because criminals are less afraid of police than the possibility that an armed citizen may be present during an assault.
A while ago, I won a Sig P-380. It's a high quality, compact 7 shot, .380 (.38 short) cal, semiautomatic. My wife decided that she wanted it and started taking classes. It's a good size and caliber for her.
I much prefer semiautomatics, whether a handgun, rifle or shotgun. I think they are best for self defense and hunting. But that's just my opinion.
So if you are considering buying a guy, I encourage you to do so. But take your time in trying different guns and choosing one that is just right for you.
I own many guns and I don't even need a license to buy them, or own them as it is a right in the US. My state does not impose undue burden on us like other states do and believes in following the constitution.
Rights should not have a license to exercise them, simply need to prove you are who you say you are.
The only license I have is a conceal carry, but I don't even need that to conceal carry as we have Universal carry, but the conceal carry license allows me to have it ready to fire immediately if needed. Universal carry means I have to be two steps away from being able to fire, when concealed carrying that way.
I say go for it, and it can become a hobby to target shoot. I target shoot all the time, I live rural and can do so in my own backyard.
Take a class those and learn the rules of gun safety, especially the one that your responsible for where ever the bullet goes, even if it passes through your target/wall into something else.
That seems to be the one that people miss, they get a high powered rifle and shoot through a target and don't pay attention to what is on the other side.
At home I have piles of big hunkin logs from giant trees, so if a bullet goes through the target or I miss some, it goes into a 3 foot diameter log. Wood is good as it prevent bullets from ricochet as easily. Instead they get stuck in the wood.
Well, the first point I'd say is the same that applies to everybody: learn how to use it, and use it WELL: even if you never intend to, if you need to, knowing how could make the difference between life and death for both you and those around you. Get in the occasional round of practice at the range, too.
I'd be lying, however, if I didn't say I had another concern, about women, specifically: make sure you learn WHEN to use it: a lot of women grow up with the idea that violence from them doesn't matter; that domestic violence they cause isn't important, and damage THEY inflict is inherently insignificant. That's untrue on its own, but doubly so when it comes to guns; it doesn't matter how hard you punch when it's bullets doing the hitting. Please remember that choosing to use a gun is choosing to take the power of life and death in your hands, and that's something that should never be done lightly.
Do that, and I have no objections.
I believe that it’s not the gun it’s the gun user if they’re not mentally stable or in use for the right reasons then yes, there a danger to other people
Same!
I got my FOID card but haven't made a purchase yet. My dad has hunted for pretty much his whole life and goes to the shooting range often - so I figured I'd learn from him. He obviously has rifles but his handguns are probably more realistic for me. Anyway - good luck to you!
Yeah, that kind of sounds like us my dad is military and that side of the family is as well so he’s all for being protected. I just haven’t made a quick purchase on some thing there is one gun that I do like.
If you live in the U. S. you should be allowed to own a weapon. Women especially should own a weapon for self defense purposes.
However, CERTAIN, individuals want to impose laws and regulations that only hurt the very people who follow the gun laws to begin with.
Make sure you take an introduction to firearm safety and shooting course, do range time to stay proficient, and always be prepared to defend yourself.
Today, a 3 year old in Texas found a loaded gun and shot and killed her 4 year old sister. Their parents were in the house but not watching them. The authorities are not sure if any charges should be brought against the parents... really?
Wow see that is very scary and those are some of the reasons why I feel like it could be a dangerous situation. I don’t have kids personally but children are very curious.
You're supposed to keep them in a safe, and will be criminally charged for allowing a gun to get into the hands of some minor that shouldn't be touching them.
I guess I learned the hard way with throwing knives. My wife got transferred to Japan and we moved there. They have rules about knives. Anyways, I had these little throwing knifes tucked into a jewelry box and was unaware that they even existed. My kid though... climbed up shelves and found them... then handed them out to his classmates. I ended up having to do 9 months of community service... that's 2 hours of community service every day with no pay... picking up trash. I was literally unaware I owned them still.
Oh the law in Japan is something about anything longer than 3 inches... yet they sell butcher knives in the 100 yen store. WTF?
Love guns but the trends for gun owners have been very bad lately
Lefties started getting them and of course they're doing what they always do, committing crimes with them and making lawful gun owners like me look bad
Although a quick look at me will tell people that I'm not a left winger at all so they know I'm not violent and believe in self defense only, to the uninitiated, I may be seen as a threat to people's safety thanks to Lefties making lawful gun owners no longer the most non-violent group in the country
I really don’t understand the left or right side of things, but I do like the fact that you’re OK with women having protection
I work in a gun store if you want to DM with questions, or do you think it would be more helpful to talk publicly so others can benefit too?
Thank you this would be helpful
Have you done any research into any particular firearms or at all? That's a good first place to start. Have you looked at or tested anything at a range? Are you signed up for any training classes?
I’ve been two classes and I have my license. Is it OK to buy gun at a pawn shop
You should be careful with used guns just starting out. You're probably better off having gone to classes than someone who hasn't, but I would look at a new gun for your first one unless you are absolutely certain what you are getting is in good working order. I get it financial need happens to the best of us, but there are guns that are passably alright until you are ready to invest in something better in the 300$ range. Ruger LC/EC9, Smith and Wesson Shield or Bodyguard. Charter Arms if you're into revolvers. I'd stay away from Taurus or Mossberg or Sarsilmarz or Remington pistols. Canik makes a great and affordable gun, but they're huge and difficult to conceal.
Call of course I am been in ROTC in of course multiple classes and the gun range before I decided to get my license. It was thought out before then one side of my family is totally military, so it was never discouraged.
Fair enough
I think every citizen should be trained how to use guns in the public school system and then awarded a rifle upon graduation.
Why? If everybody in the country is armed and knows how to use those arms, other countries will be more hesitant to invade us and our own government will be hesitant to be tyrannical.
In 1941 the Empire of Japan feared invading the American mainland because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass and an American who grew up respecting and knowing how to use it behind the trigger. Today more Americans know how to shoot video game rifles than real ones because of the fears politicians have of their abused constituents.
I'm not a fan of gun culture. I think that gun ownership, creates a greater safety risk than it resolves. I believe there should be strict gun laws.
If you need a gun for self defense or to protect your home, work to improve your community and make it safer.
I believe in the right for *responsible* people to bear arms. The thought that even stupid people must get a license to drive a car yet that same stupid person needs nothing to buy a gun... baffles the mind.
For what its worth, I have several guns and I know how to use them and I know how to fix / repair them.
Start with something basic in 9mm like a glock or ruger revolver if it's self defence you want. I gave my wife a Ruger LCR for her mini van, small and compact for her hands, lightweight, low recoil, easy to shoot, low maintenance. It's idiot proof and chances are if you need it you won't need more than 1 or 2 shots.
A girl came to my house for the first time a few days ago, and her dad sent her with a gun that she was wearing on her hip when she showed up.
I thought it was sexy, cute, and I got the message loud and clear lol.
All women should carry a gun if they know how to use it
Don't buy a gun from a gun store. Never buy a gun that has to be registered. You don't want Biden's goons knocking on your door.
I don’t think it’s just Biden people. There was a situation before he was in office where they had their license, went and bought their stuff from the gun store and ended up dying.
Just keep it on the low down, and understand that commies like Biden only want criminals to have guns. Commies like Biden want open borders and empty prisons. I live in an apartment building, and every now and then a whack job is pounding hard on my door at night. I'm ready for them, and if they do kick the door in, I'm going to jail and probably prison. But I prefer that to pushing up daisies in a cemetery.
100% in support of gun ownership as long the person isn't a lunatic.
@exitseven: You can't tell if someone is crazy? Crazy people usually show signs they aren't right in the head.
I do agree that there should be some type of mental stability check before purchasing a gun or getting a license
@exitseven I do if I am paid.
Don't need to think about them lucky no one has them here. So they are a Non-issue, I'm not living in a state of fear thinking I need a gun for safety.
I’ve know a lot of women who are armed and carry. A LOT. Hell, my mother carries a gun in her purse and has my entire life.
Don’t listen to people like OddBeMe who want to disarm women, the elderly, and disabled people so that they can’t protect themselves.
Because when it’s 3AM and see you a man standing over your bed, the first thing you reach for is your phone. Not your gun. 🙄
racists will tell ya blacks shouldn't own guns, i know that
Yeah, that can go all types of ways
nope
gun ownership is protected by the second amendment and is intended on standing your ground in defending yourself
Be smart and responsible with it. Guns are equalizers. Reality is, unless a man is putting in no effort to hurt you, you aren’t beating up a grown man. He’ll definitely feel a couple rounds to the chest though if he tries raping you.
I own a 5.56 AR-15, SPX 12 guage shot gun, P-22 walther hand gun, and a Glock 9mm... How do I feel about it? um... it's just something to me. Not really a big deal.
P-22 is.22LR
Its like with knives but a way more reliable self defense weapon i feel i need to have. Burglars and criminal threats must to be shot like wolves.
Germany unfortunately has us cucked about that.
contrary to the NRA opinion, i firmly believe more weapons will not create more peace and less crime. however i think gender doesn't matter in gun ownership.
Personally I am opposed to women ownership. Sadly there is slavery in the world today and every human should be free.
Regarding guns. Feel like every sane adult should go to a gun range and learn how to properly and safely fire a gun. Can own them as long as they have a gun safe and use proper procedures
Women ownership? You mean we can own women now?
Not really my thing and would probably never own one or get a license
Get a gun, learn to use it and then use it if you need to.
I 100% support lawful gun ownership by law abiding citizens. Not sure why it would be any different for a woman than a man.
Take the time to learn gun safety and how to properly use an store you guns.
I see it as part of the inherent right of self-defense.
I entirely support it with a proper background check for handgun purchases.
do what you like to do. I not into guns but a taser seem nice to me.
Gun ownership is for cowards that live in fear. Talk to a gun owner and you will see I am right.
I've own for over 40 years only pulled it out one time
I am entirely in favor of it.
You said you got a permit? What type exactly?
I’m for owning women, of course. But I think guns should come with some required training and background checks…univserslly applied everwhere.
Gun ownership has benifits and dangers. One benifit is the crime happens less when they know lawabiding have them. One danger when it gets used inapropeatly people get hurt.
I feel indifferent about ownership of women owning them, the laws here in the US are worthy of criticism but they're better than in a lot of places. I firmly support the second amendment.
Weapons for all with the exemption of the mentally ill & criminals.
You need a safety course.
I have been. I think at this point it’s choosing something that I’m comfortable with and also that has a safety.
the largest percentage of child deaths are from been shot
I’d like to own a gun
I can't own enough
I support you 100%!
Women should own guns.
i dont associate myself with gun owners.
