Why do people love/praise the ones that treat them like shit?

I've been trying to look at things from other people's perspective and I still don't get it.

People praise and kiss the ass of people that treat them like shit and then treat the people that treat them with love and respect, the same way the people that treat them like shit do.

I don't get it. Maybe they think they deserve the treatment or it's what they're used to. The treating the good ones badly doesn't make sense though

it mostly comes down to childhood trauma where if someone grows up in a broken home or were bullied when they were young they feel like they can't do better than what they have going on in a toxic relationship whether the victim is male or female and the perpetrator will use verbal abuse belittling and making comments like "if you leave you will never find anything better" and so on. it sucks that it has to be a viscous cycle someone has to go through. just my opinion of witnessing these situations first hand

There isn't a simple answer to this.
"like shit" is your perception, not theirs. they may be ok with it

not really. I experienced this with someone I dated and if I were to do the same thing and treat him like shit like others he'd freak out
