MOREOVER, there are already millions of dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted, and breeding only contributes to the problem of pet overpopulation.

FINALLY, breeding for certain physical traits, such as extreme brachycephalic (flat-faced) features, can cause significant health issues and suffering for the dogs.

No it's not cruel to PROPERLY breed dogs. A proper breeder tends to all their puppies well and fairly. Proper breeding would decrease the chance of weak or birth defected puppies. Regardless a good breeder will offer vet care to any sick puppy.

Breeding properly is key to keep a clean healthy bloodline and to make certain the breed continues on. Many breeds are essential for many lines of work and rescue.

It's cruel to say breeding pure breeds is bad because of certain idiots who don't take the task seriously.

Now that said it is more cruel to not fix your pet especially if you are not a professional well train and proper breeder.

I don’t have a problem with breeding dogs. So long as it’s done by a reputable breeder that takes the time to title, have the necessary genetic screenings done, the OFAs and Pennhips to ensure that the puppies they’re producing will have good lives without preventable diseases. They also usually have waitlists and claimed puppies as soon as they have a proper count.


But the bybs and mills that breed the most popular dog breed at the time, or breed mutts like doodles and then charge an exorbitant amount of money for them. I’ve also seen bully bred mutts for ridiculous amounts as well. And now there’s people breeding ‘exotics’ or non functional dogs that will most likely die before they reach one year old; exotic bullies is a good example of this they literally look like a bullfrog abomination. Those that breed them are cruel and really don’t give a shit about the animals produced.

Depends on the breeder. Those that keep the bloodline strong and don't overdue it (breed their females frequently) and those that are like puppy mill settings.

I had a dog from Quebec that was rescued from a mill, poor little guy was afraid of the garden house, because they used to wash all the crates down with a fire house.

I have not heard of that, and find it surprising that they just don't or give away or sell them without a pedigree to families that want a pet. My dog was such a dog. He could not be used for competitions, because he was 3 times the normal size. His sister was similarly a runt, but his two brothers went on to competition.

Its cruel because they keep deformations and further increase them, so the dogs suffer their whole life, eg the Pug has trouble breathing and is always on the verge of suffocation.

I would never support a commercial breeder! The animal asylums are full with awesome dogs that need a new home. People should primarily go there to get a dog! 🐕🦮🐕‍🦺

I would only ever get a dog from the animal shelter. I would never get one from a pet store. They use puppy mills.
