As for me I always tell people you shouldn’t prolong a suffering animals life to benefit your own & when it’s time it’s time & when it’s time you’ll know it & hopefully you do the right thing. As for me I don’t think it’s cruel to put down an animal if the animal is old, can’t walk, eat, go to the bathroom or do anything else. On one hand if putting down an animal is cruel that also means by not putting down an animal it is abuse because the animal will suffer longer. Think of your pets, not you & do the right thing.
Depends how it's dying of course and it's own attitude towards it. I've had two cats die on me, both were old and sleeping a lot not really any energy to do anything and one of them was in a bit of pain as she gained a bit of a limp but she loved cuddling up to my face so I let her do it until she died.
If she was whimpering or losing control of her body then ya I would of put her down but she was strong and went the way I think she wanted to.
Got to analyze it and think what are they wanting.
If they are suffering and you know you can't save them no... It's cruel to let them agonize to their last moments. The vet straight up told us our dog was terminally ill and that it would get to the point where he would start vomiting her organs, we knew we had to put him to sleep. It was painful but it would have been worse to have him suffering like that.
Cruel no sometimes it’s the kindest thing we can do. We euthanized my roommates dog due to cancer and loss of appetite she lost a lot of weight and really deteriorated through the years. That said if someone is euthanizing a healthy pet that’s a little more questionable

Not if it’s suffering and not doing well , if it’s living a life of severe agony and there is no way to make it better , it’s best to have it put down, so it isn’t suffering in agony anymore , know it’s a tough decision to make , but picture yourself if you were in severe agony and living a miserable life in severe pain and agony and there was no magic cure to save you whatsoever , would you want to live in agony or die in peace and comfort? So usually a vet knows when an animal is in severe agony and they Will recommend you put it down , the injection they give animals makes them pass away in peace , I had to put a few of my pets down and it wasn’t easy but it was nice knowing they weren’t suffering anymore
If they are suffering and there is no good ending to this it is not cruel. I kept Harry alive maybe longer than I should have. He was in renal failure for months but I kept getting him rehydrated. Finally I had the vet end his suffering. It was maybe one of the hardest things I ever did.

Did you cat have a fake eye?
I had to put down both of my dogs.
They both were noticeably suffering, my golden had a massive tumor on one of his legs. It was cancer. So we put him down.
My lab, was pretty old when this happened but something inside him burst. Possibly his bladder because he was acting different, whimpering and couldn’t pee. So we put him down to end his suffering.
I was overseas on a deployment when my golden was put down but I went into the vet with my lab to put him down, it looked peaceful. He was lying down and the first injection put him to sleep. The second injection was the lethal injection. I had my hand over his chest to feel his heart and when I felt his heart stop I cried because I lost my longtime friend. However I knew it’s what he needed because of his suffering.
Anyone who thinks so has never seen a loved one- human or otherwise- suffer needlessly when recovery is impossible and nothing awaits them in this life but terror and pain. If putting them down is cruel, then letting them suffer is crueler.
And if God has a problem with that, then God will answer to me.
If that pet is in pain I would be the first one to take them to the vet because I don't believe in any animal going to pain it is unnecessary if they live their life and there's no way that they can be fixed yes I would have to take them and put them down I believe it's the right thing to do
And to answer your question I think it is cruel to a point it's sad.. it's messed up. But you have to do it if the dog is in pain or if the pet is in pain you can't allow that to happen or to go on either so somebody has to be the bad guy I would be that bad guy just because I would not want that pet to go through any more than it has to unconditional love
No.
I just had to put down one of my dogs because we discovered a ugly and festering jaw tumor that made her suffer, was inoperable and wouldn't allow her to eat and drink.
It was better to put her to sleep rather than have her suffer for many days while dying of thirst, hunger and infection.
yes and moreso if you abandon them.
But it's necessary at some point as they are suffering and it's better to die faster than slowly suffocate.
With humans, I'd say the same... ending ones life should be legal. I've seen how we treat humans and we force them to stay alive until their bodies fail. That is more cruel.
I'd rather let them die naturally. We don't put our parents down, we palliate them instead. and take pain away.
I accompanied a friend to take her cat to the vet. 'll never forget the look of betrayal in the cat's eyes as the green juice hit. Never going to do it that with my cat friend.
Sadly I think his time is getting close.
"the look of betrayal in the cat's eyes"
Interestingly, as a species, we can interpret/project a lot in such scenario, this is usually called anthropomorphism. I don't say you're wrong, I'm just saying we can imagine a lot of things
@Maybe_Maybe_not Yeah I can see an argument for anthropomorhism. Against that we share a mammalian brain, so there is a fair bit in common.
When I first got my cat he was 5 and was scared by any loud noise and was under the couch. Now he just tends to look at me and check my reaction. He is never going to like the F35s going over my roof at the Melbourne grand prix time but less than that he checks my reaction.
He knows he is going to the vet if I am not careful. He knows I am going away. They are canny observers.
If you are dealing with animals as large as a cow than you'd better learn how to read them is what I say. Some people don't seem to be able to read their pet.
That's is a lack of anthropomorphism if I might say so. :)
Cat bites are a major cause of hospital admissions according to some nurses I know! Some people don't read tabby well enough - an ex didn't. Took her to emergency a few times.
March 22, 1994, is the day I put my very special Tina down. I had elder since December 30th 1987. Between the heartworms and the quack who over stryknined (fuck spell) I had no choice. Kidneys failing I carriel her in. It broke my heart.
No. It just sucks. But if your dog is suffering, it's more humane to put it down than let it suffer until it died in agony and fear.
No, it would be selfish to let it suffer for your benefit while all it thinks about it being in pain.
Ethically, I'm okay with euthanasia, as a case-by-case basis, for any species, including homo sapiens
Not if it’s suffering. Would you want a pet to suffer from an illness that they won’t get better?
In most circumstances it’s a very tragic yet necessary decision given your pet might be in a lot of pain at the end of its life.
No, we do this when our animals are suffering terribly. Honestly I wish they could return the favor when I get debilitating and in pain.
Not if the poor thing is suffering to the point of whimpering whenever it tries to move, and it is just terminal.
No it's mercy.
Assuming you're not just bored of it.
Not if they are suffering with some kind of life ending disease or injury.
life is cruel sometimes... give them relief out of love, is not...
Not At All. If Needed, I See No problem. Just so Hard though. xxoo
If the animal is suffering and won't get better, it's cruel not to.
Not more than murdering opposing soldiers in a war.
Not if the pet is suffering with health problems.
no, I had to put down my dog, and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. she could no longer walk, and was in pain.
It's usually more cruel to keep it living at that point.
If they are suffering and no cure for them they no it’s not cruel.
If you are saving them from unbearable pain and suffering, it’s not cruel.
Not if done humanely and is better than hurting.
It’s a tough decision, but eventually it can get to a point where they are literally on their last leg, And you’re doing them a favor.
No. Keeping them alive when the animal is suffering and will only get worse, not better for your own comfort is cruel.
Cruel for the pet owner, mostly...
Not if it's suffering and there's no other option
That would depend on why you did it.
I’ve never done that to my dogs
No. Usually it’s necessary.
Nope 🙅 of it ends suffering
It's just as messed up
as doing It To a Baby
sometimes it has to be done
No, it isn’t.
No..
Not always
