I liked both when I was young.
Everyone on the street would light fireworks when I was a kid. They were the "safe and sane" kind. But one of the dads on the street was a trucker and would hand out lots of firecrackers to kids. And some people got hold of fireworks from Mexico or out of state.
Sometimes my family would go to the beach to set off fireworks along with thousands of other people. That was pretty cool.
The only thing you had to be careful of was, back then, sparklers had wire cores that got hot. So if you walked around barefoot and stepped on one in the sand, it hurt.
But I also liked professional fireworks displays. In fact, at the beach, there was a professional display over the water.
When I was a teen, I came up with the idea of making my own rockets using the 'D'-size model rocket engines and wooden dowel. The dowel I used was the perfect size to slide over a cut off piece of drinking straw. So I'd use two engines for the first stage and two engines for the second stage. Once the first stage lit the second stage, it would slip off of the straw.
What I had to do was dig a hole in the cap on the tops of each engine that was designed to blow the nose cone and parachute off of a model rocket. With a hole in the cap, instead of popping, it shot out fire to light what was on top.
On the second stage, I would load all kinds of things - piccolo petes (with the cardboard tube removed, spinning ground flowers, firecrackers, M-80s. Or I would tape pieces of straws all around the second stage. 3 bottle rockets could fit in each straw, so I could fit about a dozen on a rocket.
The fuses for all the fireworks were stuffed into the top of the second stage engines and taped down so they would light when the engines were done.
It's hard to describe. But those rockets worked like a dream and were a holy terror.
🤣🤣🤣.
I grew out of fireworks, though. I would NEVER fire off any where I live now. There is too much dry grass.
For about the last 15 years, before 2020, my wife and I would drive to the local fairgrounds and park on the highway right next to the back fence. We would sit on lawn chairs with wine and snacks and have front row seats to the 1/2 hr fireworks display.
They didn't have it in 2020 or 2021 because of "covid". And we haven't been back since.
I loved setting them off in Australia when they were legal , they were banned many many years ago , and I was young , not so sure it would float my boat setting them off , they are dangerous , happy to watch.
We of course do not do the 4th July , so 4/7 means nothing in Australia or Thailand , we had cracker night based on the UKs Guy Fawkes , but too many fingers blown off and eye damage and the like.
@stepyo99 , yes , its the way of the world , but like so many things some just keep pushing the boundaries , until regulation over rides , you can't even legally purchase private fireworks in Australia , only the piro stuff , it was all mainly around stupid children , I never personally had an issue..
But , just as some are unable to make even half reasonable food decisions , some just push those boundaries , self responsibility? yeah that would be great..
I could hold the Penny Bunger in my palm , light the wick and hold it during explosion , not an issue , but its a distant dream in Aussie now sadly. The police Country , they love a rule.
In essence I agree with you.
I like both. When I was little.. we would set off firecrackers 🧨 on holidays!! In the US we did the same, till some dumbas kept blowing themselves off.. without an arm, fingers, go deaf… they past the law, now it’s illegal. Sometimes we watch it on tv. One year I was driving home with my kids… it was the perfect timing.. we stopped on the bridge (yes blocking traffic)…just stood on the bridge and watched.. was beautiful. I got some sparklers to teach my kids to light them. I got to get more.. they burn fast!!!
Neither anymore.
Half my family died within three years, and it's just me, my sister, and my Dad. Neither me or my sister are married and neither of us have kids.
There's no point in celebrating with only three people. All we do is just cook food, that's literally it.

I had a few M-80's that I lit. Scared the piss out of Uncle Thunder, my adopted cat!
I did both yesterday for the 4th of July
none...
they're annoying AF... and the absolute worst part of any holiday, lol (that includes fireworks as celebration)
well... I still like those fireworks up in the night sky, but as long as they're miles away
not a fan because it's not in the right mind anymore. This is about humans shelling and killing each other for power. It's good to remember, but it isn't a pretty light show... it's death.
occasionally go to see a show or some sparklers. When I hear the sounds, I think about those who were in the conflict (s).
a relative blew his fingers off with a small one decades ago. Be smart...
I don't mind watching them. I absolutely HATE when people are setting them off way before or way after the 4th or way too late. Like it gets dark before midnight. Don't wait til then to start setting them off. SOME people have to work in the morning and don't want work up by a bunch of annoying noise. I was off for the actual 4th, but my sleep was disrupted on Sunday night by a bunch of noise. I'm sure it will be tonight as well.
I have a deadly fear of fire and sparks. So I’ll just be in the comfort of my home with headphones to tune out the loud noises that come from fireworks.
As a kid, i enjoyed watching them. Now its just a really annoying sound and horrible smokey smell. I never had an interest in popping them and hated holding those sparklers 🤣
I’m American

LET BLOW SOME SH*T UP!
I don't like either, it's just loud and obnoxious
Plus any view is super obstructed by useless buildings and constant pollution radiating from them to see anything, anyways. Plus they charge an arm and a leg for a damn sprinkler, more money I don't have
I've seen enough fireworks... I really couldn't care less if I ever see any again.
I used to buy a big pile of them every year and set them off st the beach. I have not done this in many year but may start doing it again.
When i was a kid i loved setting them off. Now i just like to watch. Kind of makes sense actually, My grandfather loved watching me set them off, and loved watching the displays, but never really participated.
Neither. Fireworks are toxic for the environment and can scare many fellow animals.
I celebrate July 1st not 4th but yea I like to just watch but maybe next year I’ll do fireworks
Am from Canada so already celebrated Canada Day with fireworks
I don't care. Why burn Money? I like to spend money for other things that are more interesting for me. And Fireworks are not good for the environment.
I like to just watch them. But I like doing sparklers and pop its.
I enjoyed watching them when I was younger. Now I just find them annoying. I never felt the need to set them off. I'm trying to keep all my fingers. I need them for work.
I'm a watcher. I leave explosive devices to the experts.
I watch them. I'm clumsy, but I would still prefer to keep my left hands.
watching.
I leave it to the pros, and even then things can go wrong.
I do both I set off sparklers and I watch fireworks on tv
Well my neighbors can't read a calendar... pop pop pop 3 days before,,, now and days after pop pop pop
Just watching. Leave the severed fingers to the professionals.
I feel very interesting here I certainly enjoyed it
Watching them.
Neither one. I don't like fireworks.
It's better to watch them from afar.
Spectator sport for me ❤️🤍💙
Neither.
Watching.
Just watch.
Watching them.
when I was younger yes now not so much.
Just watching them
